Is it normal that i refuse to donate to charities?

Yes, its true. I'm a scrooge. I won't donate to ANY charities as a rule. I'm quite vocal about it. There are too many of them. I think that most of them are beggars wasting money on 'administration + campaign costs' like large parties, executives, blah blah blah. To me, most aren't effective. They're a rah rah feel good party for those involved and that's it. They don't really make much of a difference. Mostly, I'm sick of all of the begging by yet another charity. The number of mooching charities that come out of the dark during Christmas is over the top. Its fine to donate to anyone that you know personally, but to donate to a large entity? I'm not into it. Anyone else?

    It really depends on how the organization is managed. Many are quite wasteful with admin costs. However some of them employ lots of staff, so even if only ten cents of the dollar go towards the actual work, they are providing a job for someone in the community. A bit backwards, but jobs are hard to come by.

    Also, these things take research. Most people are too lazy to actually look at the details. There are many charities, some do good work, I'm sorry that some have ruined the concept for you. If you truly cared, you would give your time and volunteer.

    I have done this work. You sound like someone who just likes to complain. And it's a valid complaint, but it solves nothing. But personally, I would hate to see the concept of charity go away simply because there are bad people and stupid people taking advantage of the system.

    Most of the time the money is not going anywhere. You're smart. I don't know how donating money to a scam to prove what a great person is going to help anybody.

    I work for a professional fundraiser. The agency gets 60 percent of the money donated. The telemarketer who calls you gets anywhere from 20 to thirty percent. Most of the telemarketers are drug addicts who use the donated money that goes in our pockets for drugs and women. That's the real truth.
