Is it normal that i react stronger to my middle name than my first?

I have the same first name as my dad but a different middle name, so my family has always called me by my middle name. However, when I started going to school my first name was used so in a sense both names feel like my "first name". Is it normal that both names have different connotations to me and I have a stronger emotional reaction to someone referring to me by my middle name instead of my first name (and feeling really strange when a friend uses my middle name and a family member uses my first name)?

You've probably gone by your middle name longer and it's the name the people closest to you use for you.

This reminds me of a story the British comedian Frank Skinner told about his early days of fame. He's really called Christopher Graham Collins and he "borrowed" the stage name Frank Skinner from a friend of his dad. Where he's from, it's common for family to use the middle name for children.

Anyway, he tells the story of how someone knocked on his parent's door (he still lived at home) looking for "Frank Skinner". His mum answered the door and the following conversation ensued:

Fan: Does Frank Skinner live here?
Mum: Frank? Oh, you mean Chris *shouts upstairs* Graham, it's for you!

My nephew is Randy William but his parents call him William and I think that Randy is a nicer name. I call him Randy so do my sisters.

    I have no middle name:(
