Soap and water actually removes the smell. Deodorant will only cover the smell.
Be careful with that. I'm not convinced that deodorants don't have carcinogenic properties, only that they're safe for underarm use. Proximity to sexual organs is another thing entirely.
Steareths and parabens in combination are a bad deal. The former is a carcinogen in humans, and the latter drives the spread of cancer. To be honest, shampoo is a much bigger problem area, but deodorants are still a problem too.
Do you have a source on this? The only sources I can find that really confirm what you're saying are websites selling paraben free products.
There's a SAGE journal entitled Final Report on the Safety Assessment of Acrylates Copolymer and 33 Related Cosmetic Ingredients. Unless you've got an Athens username (or a SAGE one), you'd have to buy it. I wouldn't recommend it because there's not a lot in it that'll be useful to you. However:
"These ingredients function in cosmetics as binders, film formers, hair fixatives, suspending agents, viscosity-increasing agents, and emulsion stabilizers. Concentrations may be as high as 25% if used as a binder, film former, or fixative; or as low as 0.5% if used as a viscosity-increasing agent, suspending agent, or emulsion stabilizer."
and:
"It was carcinogenic when applied at a concentration of 21% to the skin of C3H mice. Lower concentrations (2.5%) and stop-dose studies at high concentrations (43%) were not carcinogenic."
doi: 10.1080/10915810290169800 International Journal of Toxicology November 2002 vol. 21 no. 3 suppl 1-50
In general, the journal article is saying these are *not* carcinogenic in the conditions they are typically used and are safe for the use they were intended. I raised my concern because the OP was using them near sexual organs and any cosmetics company would reject claims based on this not being the intended use.
Doesn't that sting?
It would definitely inhibit bacteria growth, but I have no clue if it's normal or common - guess I'll have to check back on this one and see.
