Is it normal that i prefer subtitles/closed captioning on for movies?

I only use the subtitles for movies when I am watching them by myself because I know some others find it distracting. I have definitely watched films without them but I just feel like I absorb all the information when I READ everything a character says. Sometimes when a movie has someone with a dialect or accent I find hard to understand,so closed captioning really helps.vSo is it normal?

OMG I do the same thing! Its so hard to hear accents, or when actors speak quickly...it's so much better with the english subtitles on, not to miss any words!

I do this a lot as well, but I get annoyed when the subtitles or closed captioning doesn't match the dialog exactly, word for word.

Me too! I hate it when a movie doesn't have subtitles. I have them on, even if I know the words off by heart. xD

I don't think it's normal, but I do it too. Subtitles on films are usually pretty good, but the ones on TV leave out a lot of dialogue and often just summarise.

Know what you mean about people finding it distracting. Someone told me they don't watch foreign films because they think reading subtitles is too much effort. Coming to something when even reading is seen as strenuous physical activity.
