Is it normal that i noticed in court a lie detector is never used?

Why doesnt the judge in court give the person guilty a lie detector test to see if they r guilty or innocent? It would be so much faster than to go thru all that deciding and jury stuff. It's just something I've noticed. It would give the answer faster than ya to go thru all that jury and deciding!

  • I wouldn't want something deciding my fate in court that has a 50% chance of being wrong, especially if I was innocent.

Simply because the worse criminals were able to be it back then.they use to use it all the time untill more people learned how to manipulate their bodies to outsmart the machine.but dont worry soon they will flash a probe across your head and be able to scan your thoughts and memories and the truth.and they will be able to display the images on a screen.

  • No such thing as a lie detector. The term is an invention of those in media and entertainment. It's called a polygraph, which really means nothing more than a device that measure several physical indicators.
Both easy to beat and very prone to false positives. The test will indicate whatever the operator wants it to indicate. Pretty useless.

It's not real science and it doesn't work (although it can give a heads up about when someone is nervous about something). Despite that, many countries and institutions do actually use them.

Sodium pentathol is also a dubious method of getting to the truth. Especially when you consider that someone suffering from mental illness might not even know the truth of their actions themselves.

lie detectors actually measure things like heart-rate, perspiration, breathing levels...So many factors can actually affect these levels other than just lying about something.
So using a detector as the only way to tell if someone is lying just won't cut it. BUT, it can be a good indicator..

For one they are not admissible in court because there is a margin of error involved in the process...meaning the results are not always correct. I took an elective information class when I was in law enforcement that actually covered the topic of lie detector tests. It was shown how easy they are to beat and we were actually tested ourselves. Without prior knowledge of the questions I was easily able to lie successfully and the machine was never the wiser. Also, there is a question as to whether people that are mentally unstable actually ever achieve accurate results when tested.
