Is it normal that i never sing when i listen to a song i like?

I think all of my friends sing even just a little when they hear a song they like on the radio or when they listen to music on their iPods. I, however, never do that. I actually hate to sing and believe singing out loud ruins the song. Just wondering what you think.

Yes, I really dislike it too. And I'm not sure why it got such a reaction from me, but it's rare that I feel hatred towards people like I did when I heard a group of people I know singing Wonderwall by Oasis. It just pissed me off, and I don't even know why. Although, I really don't like the song. It's a really big pet peeve, although it really depends on the instance, because if they jokingly singing, then I love that.

I never sing out loud, although I always sort of do that thing where you sing without making a noise. You know when your mouth is saying all the words, but not making any noise. Argh, what's it called?!D:

Yes yes yes yes! I've been trying to think of the word to describe what I meant for absolutely ages now, so thank you!!:D Gawd, it was so obvious:P.

        Yay!

We all have those moments. I hate when I blank out on a word and it takes seemingly forever to remember it.

100% with ya. If the melody/singing/sound is too good to sing over and it takes acute hearing to take in all the epicness, then I don't sing along. I have my songs separated into categories of "singing" and "won't sing".

Thank you for not singing. I ride the Metro, and some people listen to music with earbuds on, and sing aloud, offkey, and then either mispronounce the words, or repeat vulgar, profane lyrics. It drives me crazy.

It's normal that you never sing while songs are on. I think it's just part of who you are and what makes you unique.

P.S. I think it probably would ruin the song for some, but I love it when other people sing, even though if they sound terrible.

  • Yeah I usually feel the same. But if its a song that I really like and I've already listened listened to it a bunch of times then I'll usually just sing it. At least some of it. Because at that point I have an emotional connection with the song, and I feel that I can best embellish those emotions by singing it. When I really love a song it becomes less of a work of art that I'm trying to digest and more of a catalyst to a certain raw emotion with which I'm already familiar.

Singing with other people is cool, sometimes. When someone else starts singing and I'm not in the mood to sing the song then I get kinda pissed.

True... singing aloud some songs especially can really ruin the song. But I basically sing every song I hear, even when it's in a foreign language or not even real words being sung. And I even might sing (or simply lip sync) when I am alone in public walking to school and such.

But seriously, how do you do it? I can't help myself from singing, even when I kind of don't want to.

I very rarely sing to any songs. Half of the music I listen to doesn't contain lyrics anyways, and the music I do listen to that has lyrics I don't know enough of the lyrics to sing along. I'm horrible at properly hearing words that are being sung. And even worse at remembering them.
