Is it normal that i'm worried he's going to die cuz he joined the army

A guy I used to really like (and still kind of do) has recently joined the army. I know this because he is wearing army clothes in his facebook pic and has confirmed it, but I don't know where he is stationed. I don't much about the army but now I'm freaking out that he's going to die! If my fear is irrational, could you please explain how?

    Had an ex that was in the reserves and it was always a fear of mine as well that his troop would be called to duty and I'd never see him again, its a normal and legitimate concern but only girls that are strong enough to deal with and handle that fear should date a military man, they need you to be strong as well.

    if your a good friend to him you will be there for him and not show him or tell him your fears, at the end oif the day you must of know he wnated to join so maybe you should of said soemthing then
