Is it normal that i'm tired of anti-christians?

I'm not even Christian, I'm Jewish. But I'm tired of people bashing Christians, and saying that they're all homophobes. I know lots of Christians, and they all support gay rights 100 percent. None of them have ever tried to get me into Christianity or Jesus, and I don't want people judging my friends because of their religion. IIN?

I don't have problems with christians but I do have a problem with homophobes. If I have a problem with a homophobe who is a christian, I have a problem because they're a homophobe, not because they're a christian.

Unfortunately, the two things aren't completely unrelated so it's not quite as simple as I've just made out.

I can't say I've ever bashed your friends, though.

People aren't being rude. You are offending people by telling them they are "deluded" because they believe in "a diety that doesn't exist". Leave people be. Let them believe what they want, you aren't going to change their minds by saying these things anyway. You come off as very "greater than thou". Not to mention, who are you to preach about what exists and what doesn't? How do you know unquestionably? You dont and can't.

Since the term you used can refer to various deities from many religions, and can be interpreted in many ways or can also be offensive to some people, it is creating divisions in society. Should you wish to refer to a deity, you should refer to them by their proper name. For instance, in the three major Western religions, Jehovah/Yahweh/Allah which are the same deity (you may use any preferred as long as you understand that they are the same deity), just as Zeus and Jupiter are the same deity.

Why are you creating divisions in society?

    • Oh, not with the "divisions in society" thing. It's irrelevant. The only way there wouldn't be divisions in any way would be if everyone was all exactly the same. I'm not trying to create divisions, I'm trying to make people see that they don't necessarily matter. See?

      Comment Hidden ( show )

      • suckonthis9

Theological divisions in society is relevant. History has shown us time and again that these divisions cause war, terror, hatred, distrust and numerous other behaviours that are detrimental to peaceful and civil society.
I in no way, shape or form said that everyone should be exactly the same. Division in society is necessary (for now) in other ways, such as the division of labour.
I'm not saying that everyone should immediately discard their beliefs, but they should try to heal these divisions. For instance, if you belong to a particular religious institution that is divided into sects, you should try to find the commonality, and focus on what you have alike, rather than on your differences. At the same time, you should acknowledge that there are people that are of other religious belief and people who are not religious.
Ultimately, we should have a world where people would describe themselves or others as simply; religious, not religious or Enlightened (this requires at least a basic understanding of the actual nature of the Universe).
You are contributing to these divisions and perpetuating them if you continually make references to them (and the English language and other languages are full of divisive religious terms).

But religions are theological divisions. It isn't possible to have different religions without divisions.

What you are saying is that if everyone believed the same thing, there wouldn't be religion-bashing. That's a point so obvious it wasn't worth you making it.

I am not saying that everyone should believe the same thing, as that would lead to stagnation of thought and progress in society.
What I am saying, is that theological divisions, whether you are religious or not religious cause problems in society.
The poster is creating divisions in society, because they have a thought, idea or concept in their mind, and they used those thoughts, ideas or concepts to express divisive behaviour.

So you are saying that we either believe all the same and get stagnation, or we don't all believe the same and get a divided society. Either way you are saying we all lose. I don't agree.

The last thing you say makes no sense. The poster has a thought in their mind, but in no way does it express divisive behaviour. Which groups do you think the OP is dividing?

No, I have already said it once, and I will say it again. that we should have freedom of belief and expression.
In my opinion, what we need to do is believe in ourselves and that which is real. We have been stubbornly clinging on to archaic belief systems, that I think are creating division In society and the detrimental effects thereof.
I think that everyone should take more responsibility for their own actions, and stop spreading these divisive behaviours around through vocabulary and/or participation in these antiquated belief systems.

There is a problem with this, the Christian bible shames homosexuals and condones the hatred of homosexuals. One cannot pick or choose what he or she will believe in. You follow the 'teachings' of the bible or you don't. It's as simple as that. If you don't like homophobes maybe you should try another world view, like atheism.

The Bible says that homosexuality is a sin. But it also teaches Christians that they are to love everyone. It's what they call hate the sin, love the sinner. As with all sins. So the Bible does not teach homophobia. People of all backgrounds can be homophobes. I know plenty of homophobic atheists.

Although your quotation is not a direct quotation, it is similar in form and meaning to various verses (parts of verses) found in a particular religious manuscript, that might be offensive to some persons whether religious or not religious, thus creating a division in society. You should have cited that it is a variant form from the author(s) that originally created this idea. (Give credit where credit is due).

I appreciate your honesty, and especially your neutral standpoint!
I do not know whether you are religious or not religious (I apologise for bringing division into this conversation. I think that we can all agree that there are people who are religious and people who are not religious), but I think that it is important for people to understand why people who are not religious continue to spread religious thoughts, ideas or concepts around. Inversely, I think it is important for people who are religious to understand why they sometimes attempt to impose their particular set of beliefs on others, thus often creating divisions in society, and the negative effects thereof. Also, if a society becomes almost completely ingrained in one particular set of beliefs, it only leads to stagnation of thought, and consequently to a backwards looking society, instead of looking towards the future.
I think that all too often we put the blame for these behaviours on others, rather than ourselves (myself included), or we make the excuse that I'm only one person and that if I change my behaviour it will not change anything. I disagree with the latter, and I think that we should all make an effort to stop these divisive behaviours through our continued rote repetition of these thoughts, ideas and concepts. This should not mean that we should not be able to discuss old ideas or concepts, but rather we should learn to discuss them in a non-divisive way.

I also appreciate your obviously well thought out and interesting yet also conveying message. But try this for a change: be honest. If somebody does something that they know is wrong (but maybe not morally wrong to them) open up to it and no put blame. Then all of our heads would be cleared. And though I am not religious, I try not to impose my lack of beliefs onto those who do believe, there really is no need for confrontation.

If this works for you, that is fine. I , however, have a different viewpoint. I agree with you that we should not blame one another, because that is what we have been doing, and this has led to tensions and divisions in society. I think that we have been blaming everyone but ourselves (myself included). The problem I see with your argument, is that if everyone accepts things that are wrong, those in the wrong would never change their behaviour.
I would like to add, that not all religious ideas are necessarily wrong. Without those religious ideas, I would not
have been able to understand the importance of the shadow creatures in our development as a civilization.
Right, there is no need for confrontation, good words.

I hate anyone that tries to shove their beliefs down someone else's throat, and insult others. When someone calls you a homophone, all you can do is deny it, and you end up looking stupid in the process. Anyone who is willing to point fingers and insult the entirety of an institution as a means to answer the problems of society rather than looking at society through an objective (or as objective as entirely possible) point of view and actually looking for the individual problems and issues, in my opinion, is taking the "easy way out" and is not as deserving of the title as "intelligent" as they so fervently claim to be.

Sorry folks, if you feel the need to do that to prove your point, you're no better than the religious folks or non-religious folks that do it. Go hard or go home.

Meaning to discard your feelings and prior experiences of the belief as best as you can while you are doing said research to make the claim.

If you think something is bullshit to begin with and you are determined to hold on to that opinion, then you'll more than likely be unwilling to do the research and keep an open mind, assuming you are the "average person".

I think most people today actually with or without knowing it believe in just the people, the community that exist today that is perpetuated all throughout the society. Creating the entire identity that holds all the beliefs in a kaleidoscope of ideas (clashing). They say they believe in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth but too few actually hold a firm example of exactly what he did in biblical teachings. In denial, they say no man is perfect and so follow what everybody else in their time and age (Pisces)is doing and do exactly as the disciples did; follow and metaphorically drop their nets. STILL few actually drop their nets without coming back three days later to start fishing again instead of going across the globe teaching the gospel as the apostles did and were told. Well anyway, then the kaleidoscope kicks in two millenia later and you have everyone up to their necks in blood and money.

Nowadays it's just "We are more moral than you are, so we're going to heaven and you're not."

Very well thought out and an interesting point of view.
I know some of you are wondering...
              There is some religious terminology in this;
"biblical" is fine because it refers to an actual object.
"disciples" is fine because it refers to actual people that can be referenced AND you had previously cited Jesus of Nazareth, so I understood that it was his disciples that you were referring to.
"gospel", there is actually more than one gospel, some of which are included in the Bible, so you should have cited which gospel, as this might be offensive to some people, whether they are religious or not religious, thus creating divisions in society.
Near the end, you had made a reference to a religious concept that might be offensive to some people that do not believe in this concept, whether they are religious or not religious, thus creating divisions in society.

Why are you creating divisions in society?
