Is it normal that i'm putting on weight with exercise and diet?

I noticed after going through a bad bout of insomnia and depression that I've put weight on - 9kg. The past month I have eased out of my recluse of a life and trying to be healthy once again and started swimming - it was an hour, now an hour and a half on Mondays. The past two weeks I've started going to the gym and walking a lot more and cutting out junk food from my diet but I looked like i'd put on weight so I weighed myself and I have...

Is it normal that I can see i've put on weight (So obviously not muscle) when I've been eating better and exercising a hefty amount more than what I have been the past few months??

This result scares and frustrates me. I was in such a great place before I got sick and now I can't get back there physically or mentally even though I'm trying.

I'm feelin ya, this has happened to me before; I ate somewhat healthy and I excercised...a lot (I play college sports) but still had very little muscle tone and extra fat. The problem was, I THOUGHT I was eating healthy but I wasn't really; then I started counted calories, carbs, fats and proteins with an iPhone app (calorie counter) and found that I still had way too many fats especially and then I started to limit my calories to 2000, with less fats and then I got amazing results. Contact me for further help :)

Are you constipated? Drink more water.

My sister uses exercise to eat even more than usual.

Cut the calories - simple! If female - down to 1100 cals/day.

I saw the most amazing programme the other day about sending enzymes into the blood to break down fat. If you hate exercising at the gym - just get on an exercise bike and 'kill' yourself on it for 20 seconds, recover, then repeat, recover, then repeat. One minute of mental exercise every other day will help you to break down fat.

Took them £5million to discover this :o) for the lazy obese.

    Good luck.

Skipping meals doesn't help you loose weight, it can actually add weight on and some foods we think is healthy isn't. Not saying this is something you do but just suggestions for you to think about. Depression also can slow metabolism down. Good on you for taking a stand for yourself and your health. I wish u all the best

Your physical activity is boosting your metabolism, and your body is actually NEEDING the food that you're giving it. It's normal, and don't worry - keep up the exercise and good eating (like the other person said, possibly check into your diet) and you'll start to lose weight.

This reaction is pretty normal, though.
