I try to make funny punny comments and it appears that one or two people do find them funny. It's always the same couple of people though and most of my humorous comments get a few thumbs down. Does that mean that I'm really not funny? Is it a sign that I should keep some of it to myself?

I'd like to be funny like Parrish, dappled, or flutterhigh but they are so amazing there's not anyone else at the same level as them. If I'm not as funny as them, like not even close then maybe I am just annoying people (hence the thumbs down).

What should I do?

Keep it to yourself. I hate people who think they're funny but aren't.	22

Firstly, there are a few members on here who make very good puns and who I absolutely love! A good pun can have me laughing for ages, so please don't give it up, puns really are great!

But I understand, I deliberately avoid being funny on this site for that reason, along with many others. It's a shame though, because I feel like a huge part of my personality doesn't make it onto IIN.

My advice, keep making puns, if they're good then you'll definitely get a thumbs up from me! Also, if you don't mind me asking, who are you? I have a feeling you may be on my list of the most hilarious pun makers, but I'm not sure:)

        I literally couldn't guess, mainly because I know I will feel extremely guilty if I mention someone who isn't you. Your clue didn't help though, since there a lot of users whose genders are ambiguous to me. I think you should give me a better clue:P!

        No. I've tried to strike up conversations with you but I think you sort of ignore me or don't even notice me. We are not chums so you don't have to worry about feeling guilty. My better clue... Someone else mentioned me here and it surprised me.

Haha I post comments that make me laugh sometimes that go unnoticed. At least I get a chuckle! I think the funniest commenter is Parrish.

As long as you entertain yourself, who cares! For example, my first comment on here I found quite amusing, and I was the ONLY one who felt that way! There will always be people like Spacey, Dappled, Flutterhigh, Parrish, Neuro, Sassyfrassylassie, djpatties, and Saycheese just to name a few! And there will be people like you and me!

I think your funny, and you think your funny, so roll with it!

Well I don't know who you are so I can't say if you're funny or not. Obviously you'll find your own sense of humour entertaining because it's your own sense of humour. Nothing wrong with laughing at your own jokes sometimes, even if you're the only one laughing :P

Puns are hit and miss. They can be very witty, but if they come across as trying too hard, corny or facetious, they can piss people off. They can also be on a par with cracker jokes. The best ones seem to be SO BAD they're punderful.

I'm flattered to be listed with those two guys, especially as I don't often feel very funny. I'm not the same nationality as most people on this site and a lot of the things I find funny really don't travel well (Vic Reeves Big Night Out is a good example. People translate "surreal" as "weird". I know Monty Python travelled but I think VRBNO is a step too far).

I never know what is going to make people on the site laugh. My favourite things go unnoticed and some of the most banal crap I've ever said in my life gets big whoops.

I can say, though, that I think I know who you are and that you like puns as much as I do. I find you funny but I guess other people like puns less. Maybe it's about having multiple strings to your bow. I'm not going to analyse it too much, though, because as Stan Laurel says, that takes the fun out of it.

While I'm on my soapbox, four of the funniest people on this site are female and not a single one of them gets the credit they deserve. Also, I think the site in general is filled with people who are funnier than average. It's a tough place to ply your comic trade.

    Well, it's tricky because one of them doesn't want to be identified and another one shouts at me if I praise her too highly. In the first case, I think I'm allowed to say things she said anonymously. She was behind "Parrish! Shoot" and also when I was shaving a tiger motif into Spacey's fringe, she commented "kitty kitty bang bang" which I still love.
    
    The person who'd shout at me is funny in a way that is completely her own. She's in disguise at the moment and, again, I don't want to blow her cover. She's said things that made me think I'd endangered my health, I laughed so much.
    
    NoraBaker and Spaceface are both very funny (apart or together) but then NeuroNeptunian's little playlet about her marriage to ItDuz was one of the funniest things I've ever read on IIN (and even made it to the door of my fridge, high praise indeed). Floydzie has her moments too. It was a private conversation and I never share stuff like that without permission, but she said something very funny and self-deprecating to me just in the past week that keeps floating around my head.
    
    You have to watch wigsplitz too; she has a wicked sense of humour. I'm not sure who here remembers her but randomjelly made me snort orange juice through my nose regularly (she's missed). Same goes for carolann. Allistalla kind of amuses me too, in the same way AnneEatzUrHeart used to; it's too manic to be part of, you just have to sit back and watch it. Plus there are people who aren't as well-known yet that I have very funny conversations with (including one who has already replied to this). There are also a handful of English females who I appreciate very much because they're funny in an English way and I miss that sometimes when they're not around. In fact, one has just come back after a long absence so yay to that.
    
    Then there are people who are generally serious but not always. Avant-Garde, TerryVie, and cookiesaregreat can all be very funny when they want to be. And I wish bananaface wouldn't avoid being funny. She was really funny first time around on the site and it'd be nice to see that again.
    
    P.S. When I said I thought I knew who you were, I was wrong. The person I was thinking of is a male pun-merchant.
    
    P.P.S. I know I said four, but when I got to thinking about it, I started remembering all the things people have done which amused me. :)

        It's really not a big deal or necessary. He tells me enough outside of IIN how much he loves and adores me... And thinks I'm funny.
        
        So I get enough of his shout-outs already. I like that he feels comfortable giving them to others too; it's part of the reason why I love him.

It is normal. Everyone has a unique sense of humor. Some people like sarcasm while others enjoy a more blunt approach. You can't please everyone.

Personally, I find that I can make a lot of black people laugh. Whenever I am talking to a black person, they seem to find me funny. Of course, this might just mean that black people are quicker to laugh or maybe it's just those specific black people I have met.
