My best friend is straight, and I am gay. Is it normal that even after 4 years of having strong feelings for him, knowing he is straight, to have never dated, because I'm hoping that one day he may realize he can overcome the fact that we are both guys?
I went through this, but with someone that I wasn't friends with. I am gay, and he is straight. We met up at a friends party, he was there with his girlfriend. I was drunk, but I have always loved him. Hes on the football team, and I am not. I am not even openly gay. I was at a Gay party. He saw me there, and two days later he texted me. I didn't even give him my #. He just texted me. and we texted each other for two hours. I really liked him, yet all he talked about was his girlfriend. So, I stopped the conversation. I haven't seen him at all. He's really dumb, and he didn't realize I was hitting on him. So, I moved on. Try him out. If he doesn't reciprocate your feelings, than rip off the band-aid and kiss him. He will either pretend it didn't happen, which is the worst that will happen, or He will kiss you back. Most guys that have gay friends, are actually Bisexual. They could be afraid to let you know.

Sorry, but you need to move on. It isn't healthy to fixate on someone as much as you have, and honestly, you have a next-to-nothing chance of changing his sexual preference. You need to accept and respect that fact that he cannot be attracted to you.
