Is it normal that i'm disapointed about this universe?

So i just finished my marathon of TLOTR/The Hobbit movies.. And i just can't stop thinking about how there will never be truly 'epic' things in our world. We will never experience that same adventurous feeling of discovering such a magical place as lets say the dwarven kingdom inside of the mountain. We will never REALLY feel the thrill of knowing there is a giant dragon waiting to be awakened and so forth..

Maybe movies and books have corrupted my mind, but i just feel like i would have rather been born in another universe. A universe of adventure and exploring, of mystical creatures and powerful magic. Might explain my love for (fantasy) RPGs and my secret hope for a (zombie) apocalypse.

Don't get me wrong though, I am happy with my life and this world pleases me nevertheless, it's just boring to know that there is so little time on this earth and we don't really get the chance to discover all the beautiful or 'epic' things there are. It's mainly like: be born - study - study some more - get a job - get married and live happily ever after. I am aware of the fact that this is very generalized, but let's face it. There aren't that many HUGE variations on this. At least not in my culture.

Long story short. Would you awesome people also rather live in a fantasy world? If you were given the chance to trade your life for an epic adventure with Gandalf, would you do it? Because i surely would.

  • This world is full of adventures if you look for them. It's not exactly the same as being a hobbit but many scenes in fantasy movies exist here as well. Go out to the forest and walk around. Camping in the mountains and rafting in rivers. There's so much things to do here as well. I also get to experience the weirder stuff by dreaming. By keeping a dream journal you can start to remember them better.

    There's this Chinese Curse:
"May you live in interesting times."

It's easy to understand the allure of a fantasy world or some sort of apocalyptic scenario when you're living in a first-world country with all your basic needs taken care of.

Think of a zombie apocalypse in realistic terms (ignoring the biological impossibility of zombies): Statistically speaking, you'd just be one more zombie for the survivors to shoot with a shotgun. When you say you'd like adventure, what you're really saying is that you'd like to be a hero, the one who does important stuff.

Let's extend this statistical analysis: Right now, you, just like the majority of people are average. You wake up, go to work, do some other shit, etc. Compared to being a zombie, that's a pretty kickass life.

Ehh you get what I'm saying and I don't really feel like typing anymore.

Meh, I wouldn't really want to be a hero.. I wouldn't want to change anything about myself or the role I play in other peoples's lifes, it's not about that.

And besides, zombie-ism exists on smaller scale, i'm talking insects and such. It could be possible for parasites that infect the neurotic system of an insect to evolve and become powerful enough to even corrupt mammals, like humans.. maybe.. one day, who knows?

So go on an epic journey. You dont have to be a robot.

Hell, just go on a walk and perhaps you decide to take the road less traveled and a bobcat decides to tackle you.

Or maybe you take a long drive and your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. A passerby stops to help you and you learn that they are part of the circus.

You may not find dragons or hobbits but this world is pretty fantastic if you just get out and explore a bit.
