Is it normal that i'm chinese and i don't hate japanese?

My family seems to be the one of the only Chinese families that don't hate Japanese people. My parents come from Asia and my family DID witness the Japanese brutalities but for some reason my parents never ended up truly hating the Japanese in general, saying that it's not that Japanese in general, and that the new Japan is nice. Are there many other Chinese families who don't hate the Japanese?

I'm not going to change my way of thinking if you say it's not, but is this normal for a Chinese family?

Also, please don't post racist crap in the comments. I will report you if you do.

Why hate them? What's past is past.

Just because someone doesn't 'hate' J does not mean they do not boycott their products, deliberately not mention anything perceived to be associated with them etc...

Someone who does not dwell on the past. Yes it is normal. People should not be blamed for the sin on thier ancestors. Who cares what has happened in the past. Long as they are not assholes today. You should not judge people on that. Just judge if they are good people or not. What happens during war is always horrible. War happens sometimes but we can not spend centauries dwelling. It just makes us bitter. Now if the same thing keeps happening well maybe you have a reason to be upset. If something happens once well it happened. Just get on with your life.

  • I didn't know it was an unwritten rule haha. If it is because of the past though then that's dumb. That's like Germany & England still hating each other because of the two World Wars. People move on, or at least they should

  • I don't think it's normal to hate an entire people because of the crimes of a few of them.

Niether do I. I especially don't understand that there are people that hate anything German related. Such hatred is pure stupidity!

In this day and age it's silly to hate ANY nationality.

  • I think your family understands the just because of those incident that happened in the past it doesn't define everyone and the future. They know how to recognise people for who they are and not judge them for the past. Yes, its normal to not hate the japanese. The past doesn't define anyone.

    Um...

I am Chinese and as a child I really liked anime/manga a lot, so I got into Japanese stuff. Eventually my parents found out about it (not like I was trying to hide it or show it in particular) and while they didn't really encourage hatred, they are ambivalent towards the Japanese. Don't like them (don't hate them). And so now I don't really like or hate Japan, I prefer not to think about it. I love some aspects of Japan and I don't like some, it has become just another culture...?

But yeah, I guess it's normal?

and it seems that your family is very kind, since some have firsthand knowage of the ugly brutalities that humans are can do to one another. I think your lucky, and everyone is lucky that there are people as open and forgive as your family in the world

Though I'm not the OP, here's some information about Japan in WW2.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Sino-Japanese_War

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_war_crimes

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_of_Nanking

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bataan_Death_March

The Japanese killed, tortured and enslaved many civilians in the war.
And to the OP, did your parents live in China after WW2?
Because the anti-Japanese propaganda started later on television and stuff, maybe they weren't there to see it.
I went to China on vacation last year, the Chinese people are very civilized and friendly but they don't like the Japanese very much, because on TV there is a lot of Japanese-Chinese WW2 films reminding them of the things the Japanese did in the war.
The things the Japanese and the Nazi's did in the wars were horrible and both Germany and Japan officially apoligized for it (doesn't make much difference but at least they acknowledge what they've done).
And another reason why China doesn't like Japan is because the Chinese are proud people, and while already in a civil war, they were partly conquered by a smaller nation, which is embarrassing to them because they have always been a strong empire.
That pretty much sums it up if I'm correct ;D

Yes I'm aware of that, though my parents are from South East Asia, which might explain why they don't hate them. Then again, they did attack Singapore, which is where my father is from.
