Is it normal that i'm attracted to smells that remind me of my dad?

Every once in a while I'll get a whiff of another guy and it'll remind me of my dad. But at the same time it's a smell that I'm attracted to; like slight musk, certain colognes, mens deodorant. I'm sure it's just because they are masculine scents, and I was so close to my dad so those smells also remind me of him. But it can be kinda confusing to be thinking, "Oh that's hot." and thinking, "Oh that makes me think of daddy." Is this normal?

There's some psych theory that claims daughters are subconsciously attracted to their fathers and sons are attracted to their mothers. This doesn't really mean intimately or anything like that, but generally speaking your parents set the standards for who you should be with. I think it is very normal that you are attracted to this smell. It's not only a masculine smell that many women like, but it's heartwarming for you since it reminds you of your dad. I think it's very sweet.

Instead of smelling guys that smell like your dad, go for the original product!

    • Ew, what the hell is wrong with you? First of all you're an idiot for not gleaning the past tense from my post and giving the proper respect. I know you're just a troll, but just because this is the internet it doesn't give you free reign to be an asshat. There are some things you just don't joke about.

ASSHAT... that's so funny! I'm gonna start using "ASSHAT" whenever possible.

Oh... and by the way, the sense of smell is the top sense used for 'memories'.

And, yeah I've heard that before. Makes sense.

And here I was thinking I was funny. I am sorry I didn't give your problem the proper respect it deserved.

        • My little sister was sort of, but that's mostly because she was the youngest. We were all close to him in different ways.

Okay jitterbug was joking we got that but anyways I got something to say now... :) yeah that's normal it's just a familiar sent that you like or you have grown to like and you feel comfortable when you around somebody with that scent therefore that comfortable feeliing brings forth the attraction you associate with it ;)

It might be a genetic thing.
