Is it normal that i'm an 18 years old and a virgin?

Hello everyone,

Since my first ever question on this website, I've been overwhelmed with interesting and diverse opinions. So I thought I'd give it another go. I am a virgin. I am also 18 years of age. In the poll options I've created, I've put a wide range of ages so you can either select the age/age group you feel is appropriate for 'losing it' or - and no pressure - the age you lost it, if at all.

I would also appreciate it if you could all weigh in on the comments page with your thoughts on my virginity. Yes, you read that correctly. Have I waited to long? Could I stand to wait longer for the 'right' person?

      Yes.
What's the point on being proud of your virginity? I don't understand.

I also don't understand 'pride' in virginity, it's as ridiculous to me as 'pride' in losing your virginity.

I suppose I can sort of comprehend being proud of resisting temptation, if you had the opportunity to have sex and for personal reasons (religion or general values) decided not to. But if you've never had the opportunity or losing it wouldn't be against your beliefs, it's hardly an achievement.

          I was kidding.
Still don't get the point on being proud of your condition, though

Have sex with whoever you feel like whenever you feel you are ready, honestly the losing of the virginity isn't THAT big of a deal. It doesn't change who you are.

  • 20 year old virgin right here. Its harder to get laid when I have pretty rigorous standards- I'm not willing to just settle for any girl who wants me. But that's no excuse.

I'm not ashamed, because I know that its imminent. I'm a college student. Lots of sex is had at university, I just need to assert myself and get mine.

I've got my game up and I've got my sights set on this girl who clearly wants me. And I'm not worried about my performance, either. I've messed around a little bit (second base) and I've learned that it just comes naturally when you're in the moment and you're aroused. Now that doesn't mean that I'll be awesome my first time, I'll probably still be a noob. But that doesn't mean I won't be able to please her. I'll get it done.

I think most non-virgins will tell us that this is the attitude we need to lose it.

I'm a 18 and a virgin as well. I'm not proud of my virginity; I'm actually just ashamed that throughout all of my life no girl has ever really expressed a desire to want me. I think that you should have sex with someone special, which will make losing my virginity much more difficult. Anyways, I know people who are in the same boat as you and I, girls as well, and all I can say is that it appears to be a normal thing.

Hey man don't be ashamed of your virginity. I'm 18 and a virgin too and I'm damn proud! It's not the "when" that matters but the "who". Your virginity is special and you want somebody you care about to have it. Sure it's taking us a little longer than we would like to find that special someone but it will happen eventually and it will be better than just giving it out to some random person who doesn't care. It's more than normal. it's noble. :)

Don't be ashamed. All of us have to work through this. I didn't have sex until I was married. (I was 23.) If I had it to do over again, I would probably do the same. However, I also like the fact that I didn't suck my best friend. I was attracted to him but being conservative I thought it best that I abstain. I now know that I was correct. I now have two wonderful kids and have no time for same sex. I still enjoy the though, but I am glad that I wound up enjoying sex with the opposite sex.

Sex [for men] is over rated. Men are sex mad, but when it comes down to it women [if serviced properly] have longer and more intense orgasms. Men tend to make a lot of effort then have a few seconds of ecstasy, and that's that. When I was young we used to joke that a fuck was a waste of good wank, but after many years of sexual activity I'm not so sure there is not some truth in that. The only way sex has any depth of meaning or fulfilment is when it is a physical expression of the love you feel for the other person. My advise is, never mind the quantity, look for the quality. A man who has had sex with a hundred different women is not as happy as the man who has had sex a hundred times with the woman he loves.

I am 19 and I am still a virgin by choice I"m not one of those nuts that say oh I am so proud that I am a virgin or ashamed that I haven't lost it What I would like for you to take from this is if you want to be with a girl then go for it ask girls out go on dates one of them is bound to give in but if you honestly don't feel the need to then let life take its course and that day will come and also it wouldn't make you more of a man or less of a man if your a virgin or not I find it kinda cute maybe we can both teach each other what we"ve been missing out on lol ;)

I barely cared about my own virginity, so I find it very difficult to care about yours :P It's yours to do with it what you will. Lose it, keep it, whatever.

I lost mine at 20, and have since had sex with 24 women without really trying too hard, so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

I am around your age and I have not lost my virginity, but I have nonetheless entered a very sexual life, consisting of most things third-base. I started at 17. This boy my age asked if I wanted to just fool around, no strings attached, and I said no because I was afraid; I never thought of the idea before and I wasn't up for it. But after 2 months of hardly seeing him and constantly thinking about what he asked me, I couldn't take it any longer. I went to him and so far I have not regret it, even without strings.

When we are really hot we can get close to sex but we still have values. He knows I want to lose it with someone who cares about me and he respects that. Sure, I wish he cared, but without full-on sex (and the strings) I'm still having a damn good time with him, wouldn't trade it for the life I almost chose.

So, 17 was when I was ready, but it all depends on the person. It seems like you're ready now, but don't go hunting down guys. I would still suggest finding a boyfriend (or sexual partner) who you get to know a little and still is honest, mature, won't mistreat you, and will care about you, at least a little.

  • I think you should lose it young, because it's better when you are young, but I think you should lose it when you are old enough to understand everything single thing that comes along with it, beautiful things, and the consequences. I picked 18.
