Is it normal that i'm always tired?

I am ALWAYS tired. No matter how much I sleep. I will sleep 8 hours a night every night for a week and still be exhausted. I've also slept up to 15 hours at once. And no I was not up all night the night before. I've also slept as little as 3 thinking that I was sleeping too much and that was the source. I also take naps almost daily. And I never want to go out or do anything with friends because I'm so tired. I also fall behind with my schoolwork because I'm too tired to focus and do it.

Is this normal??

It's not how much you sleep. It's your sleep schedule. If you go to bed and wake up at about the same time every day, you should feel more rested.

    Depression causes excess tiredness

  • Maybe your life is too boring. Get up, go out and jump the Grand Canyon in a flaming barrel with wheels. Bring only half a parachute and half three hundred medics stationed at the bottom.

Two years later I stopped taking a med I had been on for a long time. I feel great. Tht was it. But this cld b serious. Be persistant. U know ur body.

  • I have the same problem. I sleep 16 hours a day in the summer everyday then i take naps, and the only thing that helps is chocolate milk. Its pretty normal. If you dont want to then think if you dont get up you will die. Thats what helps me. I wake right up when i tell myself i'll die if i dont wake up.

Yes and no. Most people go through a phase in their life (most often in the late teens) where they suffer from some sort of sleep issue. It could be a general reaction to stress associated with schoolwork, family, relationships or friends or about a thousand other things. In which case it'll pass once the problems been dealt with. Or it could simply be related to the last stages of your brain development, at around age 17-20 your frontal lobe undergo some changes that can have a negative impact on your energy-level and therefore your concentration amongst other things.

While that's most likely the case here, and it'll go away with time, there are a number of medical conditions that can cause these symptoms.

Sleep apnea - episodes, during sleep, of blocked airways due to collapsing tissue in the back of your throat, or your tongue falling back blocking the airways, or enlarged adenoids causing a block. This will wake you up every time it happens so you'll get very fragmented sleep (this can happen up to 100+ times a night, and will leave you fatigued and drowsy and generally "foggy"), in the long-term this is also a major cause of heart disease and stroke due to elevated BP and the extra strain it puts on your heart.

Depression - known to cause fatigue and make you lost interest in social activities or just general stuff that you normally enjoy. Worth checking out.

Anemia - low red blood cell-count causes fatigue, drowsiness and sometimes even depression. Quite common in females and often easily treatable with iron-supplements.

I could ramble on, but these are probably the most common causes of daytime sleepiness and impaired concentration/memory.

TLDR; Go see a doctor if it doesn't go away on it's own.

I've been perpetually tired my whole life, no matter how little or how much sleep I get. I have been diagnosed with ADHD. I do not have any other disorder. Don't rule out ADHD as a possibility if you have this problem. Trouble focusing, listening, zoning/spacing/tuning out/day dreaming frequently, being really annoyed/severely ticked when someone interrupts something you're doing, having to force/make/push yourself to do things that don't interest you, always tired, and other similar stuff.

As the other poster said check with a doctor, could be something as "minor" as depression... If nothing medically is wrong with you then I can relate, I am always tired too... This may sound wired but go to your local health store or farmers market and get bee pollen. Google and read the benefits of bee pollen and I swear I am not as tired as before.. I hate pills so I eats about a tbl spoon in the natural granual form everyday. Also get out there and exercise it releases endorphines and gives you more energy. B vitamins are great too... I'm not some tree hugger hippy, which there's nothing wrong with that, but these are things that I swear by, bc like you I couldn't sleep enough and always wanted to sleep.

Sleeping too much or too little can make u tired. Try not taking those naps. Or try shortening or lengthening them. Also if u have a bad diet and lack exercise that can really contribute to it.
