Is it normal that i'm a vegan but don't mind meat?

I've been a vegan for 5 months and a vegetarian for about 3 years. My boyfriend and I went vegan together and he convinced me to be vegetarian 3 years ago.

However, whenever I visit my mum she usually cooks meat dishes and I really don't mind. If she wants me to cook them for her I wouldn't have any problem with it.

Is this too weird?

You're eating the meat dishes that your mum cooks, right? If so, you're not vegan. I don't eat meat most days but I'm not a vegetarian.

i think the OP ment they dont act offended, or even mind helping with cooking meat, just not partaking in the eating of the meat

no problem, im the same, but i still eat meat on occasion, Like i was force to have a little turkey dogs, at a Nephew/2nd cousin's 1st birthday. They forgot to get something else for me.

Side note i also did eat like 13 corn on the cobs that day. LOL but they ran out of corn...=O

Is it normal to not be a self-righteous asshole who pushes their dietary habits on others?

No, it's not normal. It's fucking awesome of you, but it's unfortunately not normal.

Its not weird at all. People will like what they like and thankfully you arent one of the ones that pushes your beliefs onto others.

from what you've said, it seems like your reasons for going vegetarian/vegan were health related? in that case, it makes sense that you don't mind meat

Yeah, it wasn't for ethical reasons really, I did just want to be healthier :)

Kinda like saying that even though you are 100% straight, when you are away from your BF, you only date women.
Actually, I'm surprised you don't get ill, eating meat after long periods of not.

Uh...huh? I don't think I explained myself properly. I don't eat meat or animal products ever, I just don't mind that other people eat them around me.

Well, that does clarify things a bit. I don't mind if you are a vegan, and do appreciate that you don't mind that others aren't. I think that is very unusual and most mature.
However, I'm always uncomfortable around vegans and rarely associate with them, as it's just too stressful trying to accommodate their dietary needs. I would never have one (or more) on the boat with us, nor would I accept them as paying charter guests, no matter how much extra they wanted to pay. I do not enjoy the food and think it quite impractical to have to cook 2 separate meals, 3 times a day, and have to shop for completely separate provisions, just for them.

I get your point, but I think you're missing a trick if you don't like vegans. I used to be a professinal chef, and I'm hopeful that you'd like the food I cook. You like chips, Pb+J sammiches or pringles? Well, they're all vegan, and if you don't like them, I'd say you're outside the majority.

Actually, I have never had a pb&j sandwich. Wasn't raised with them and wasn't even introduced to them until my 40's, so I guess it's now just stubbornness. Maybe, before I die? For the bucket list?
I never said I did not like vegans (as people). It is stressful if they are with a group of people and we are trying to find a restaurant where we can all eat. It's hard enough to get most Americans to join us to eat at local establishments with dirt floors and hone built tables, even though the food is way beyond excellent. Imagine someone with severe dietary restrictions trying to interpret the ingredients in such a meal.
I've had a number of good vegan or vegetarian meals in my lifetime, but I'm just not that wild about the food. I have no doubt that you could cook up plenty of things which I would enjoy, but in the end, this old fart's gotta have his meat, sorry.
There are a few vegans on cruising boats around us, but we rarely see them eating ashore, at pizza 2 for 1 nights or even on the half price pizza nights (2 completely different things, down here in the Caribbean, let me assure you), or Fish n Chips nights.
Thanks for the intelligent reply, though.

That's fair enough (haha, I thought you meant you deliberately avoided vegan food :P)
I like pizza, I just order it without the cheese :)
And well,...can anyone really say no to just chips?
I realise it can actually be troublesome for people to cook vegan food, which is why I usually make my own food, or deliberately go to the movies or do something else with friends, but I can and do eat out with them (Chinese food is good, stir-fried tofu-YUM!)

If you don't mind meat you are not vegan. But if that is okay with you. It is none of my business.

I have been vegetarian well over 10 years, and was vegan for 5... and the way you feel is normal. You have just been exposed to the stereotypical vegetarian that is judgmental towards meat-eaters. You are normal.
