Is it normal that i'm a manipulative good person?

My childhood psychologist told me that I had markings of a sociopath. I realize that it was too early to say such a thing, and conduct disorder would've been more fitting, but..

Anyway, I know a lot about psychology, I'm highly manipulative - without trying ..usually

But I hate evil. I use my powers for good.

I sure as hell don't like the feeling of being manipulated. I'd just as soon be alone than deal with someone trying manipulate me. I'd rather be accepted or rejected on my own merits than have someone trying to get me all twisted.

Can you even be manipulative without trying? Manipulation is conscious. If you're subconsciously making an impact on the behaviour of other people, that isn't manipulation. That's a natural social process.

Some people would say taking away the agency of others is always evil, and is highly unlikely to be for the greater good.

Childhood psychologist? I guess it's a little late to tell you that YOU'VE been manipulated for quite some time now? I guess your folks and this childhood psychologist have got you convinced you are all phucked up, huh? What a shame; you do have my sympathy.

Manipulative people are villified in general. People are scared if they think they're not running their own lives or calling all the shots for themselves. Manipulation is a skill that's essentially neutral; neither benign nor malignant.

You're not deciding someone's behaviour for them when you manipulate; you're influencing them with your own behaviour consciously. Manipulable people still have free will, they're just too passive or naive to realize they're being guided or edged toward decisions they might not have made otherwise. In the end though, it's still their own decision.

Manipulation is necessary for society to function properly. The authorities use it. Teachers and parents use it. People who advise dangerous people in power use it for good. Manipulation can be used to reign in megalomaniacs. Of course, manipulation can also be used as a tool for evil. However, it's a social art and talent and should be respected, not feared.

So you manipulate people for their own good. Hmmm. That does sound sociopathic.
