Is it normal that i'm 18 and never had a boyfriend?

I am 18 going on 19 and I have never had a boyfriend. In my old religion (which I have since left b/c it wasn't working out for me), we weren't allowed to date anyone who was not part of the congregation. Also, I was very isolated when I was growing up b/c I had severe asthma and stayed inside almost all of the time. I have had many guy friends, and two crushes, but that's about it. Sometimes I feel that I can't handle the level of intimacy it takes to have a boyfriend, and other times I feel like a freak because everyobody has somebody. They say there is somebody out there for everyone, but maybe that doesn't apply to me... So, is it normal to be 18 and never have had a boyfriend - be honest!

I turned 19 today And I've never had a girlfriend (I'm a guy BTW) And I have no excuses I suppose I have really high standard in myself and others so this doesn't help Anyway it's normal, just get out more often tho, easier said then done. Good Luck

Thanks. Maybe if guys lowered their standards just a tiny bit, a girl like me might have a 50/50 chance :-)

I did not have a boyfriend until I was almost 19 years old. Then I met him and he was perfect and we have been together for 11 years. Mr Right will come along. Be patient. College is a good place to meet nice guys... Just FYI ;-)

Same here. I had my first boyfriend when I was 16. Many failed relationships later at 19 yrs old I found my boyfriend and we've been together for a year and 6 months. I am 20 now and he is 18. He is a Methodist and I a Christian and we never let that conflict with our relationship.

i think you should get a boyfriend
    and start thinking about you
and not carrying about your religion.

Thank you. That's why I left it-too many restrictions and I had to sacrifice myself and my own time to dedicate myself to it.

I mostly blame that freakin' religion and the fact that I never had what you would call a "normal childhood".

Can't tell you that, but it was very strict.

The worst that could happen, for me, is rejection. I think that would be too painful for me to handle...

18 is still young , so its too early to say its not normal...now I am 49 and never had a girlfriend...so me i got a problem...

What do you mean by the level of intimacy....do you mean time spent together or them getting to know you......most people find intimacy pleasurable...so i cant tell if it is a problem because you have not provided enough details

If you have social anxiety..or low self esteem...or depression, etc....than try to get help for those things...

but at 18 you still have plenty of time

Wow, you need to come out of your shell. That's the problem.

  • 17 and no boyfriend. Using the excuse that i'm gay, and there's less of us, but it's lies. Personally i'm scared of a boyfriend because of my low self confidence. I'm afraid of someone liking me, because I don't even like myself, so they'll just be dissapointed. At least, thats how it was. If you have low confidence, you wont find your one. Just wait it out, there's years left to go yet! =)

it's normal..i'm 18 and a half and still single. age is nothing but a number.

but, if you like someone you think you could have a chance with, tell him how you feel. :)
