Is it normal that i'm 5'4 and 110lbs and want to lose at least 10lb?

I'm a 5'4 female, 18. I'm currently about 110lbs and, although I'm rational and realize that I'm at a healthy and slim weight by medical standards, I know that I definitely need to lose at least 10lbs to be happier and look more how I want to look and feel comfortable in my body at last. I'll be medically underweight but not by much. Thoughts...?

Not normal- you have a serious problem 4
Not normal- but it's fine that you want to lose 10lbs and get below 100 1
Not normal-you're actually too thin as it is 4
Not normal-you look perfect just the way you are 9
Normal- you'll look better once you lose the weight 1
Normal- you should lose the weight and then more 0
Normal- you probably look fat and definitely should lose weight 0
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I think you're playing with fire. Im guessing you made the perfect weight post too, which means youre obsessing over this a little to much. I would discuss this candidly with a doctor and get their opinion.

    Anorexic women are not cute.

You do not want to go down this road. I'm guessing you made the other post I commented on as well, but when I was 100lbs at 5ft1 I looked sickly and people were taking notice.

Underweight is just as bad as overweight, and you will experience the problems must faster. Weakness, anemia, as rose said problems with Teeth and Bones, low blood pressure...

Focus on being healthy, having energy, being able to do what you want with your body, not what it looks like. I know that's easier said than done, but this laser focus on appearance and thinness is a recipe for trouble.

You need to take care of yourself, this body is the only one you'll ever have. It's a vessel for you, not the totality of yourself, and it's a vessel that needs to be properly fueled and maintained. Please, if this is such a struggle for you, find help, there are so many resources out there for people with body image/disordered eating problems.

In what world is a 5'1" girl underweight at 100lbs? I know being 'curvy' is in fashion, and that the average American is only getting plumper, but I think you need to recalculate what's healthy.

Your gauge seems to be 10lbs off.

Possibly because I was, in fact, unhealthy. Lack of eating due to severe mental health issues which caused me to lose muscle mass.

I've for most of my life been an athletic person, I was actually my healthiest when I was around 130-140 and active in several sports as well as working out. Body fat percent was right in line with where it should have been.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to issues of weight, and I will absolutely not encourage disordered eating to acheive some stupid ideal of perfect weight.

Lets take the focus away from appearances and bring it where it belongs, to actually being healthy.

I think you're misunderstanding weight loss. Regardless of your mental health, when you lose weight you lose both muscle and fat. Now if you had a bad diet, say cupcakes and pepsi only, then that's another story. See a dentist.

But if you were simply eating less, you wouldn't be unhealthy at 100lbs at 5'1", regardless of your physical activity. Maybe this is just speculation, but I don't think a lot of women realize just how 'skinny' a healthy woman ought to be.

Because it hasn't changed in centuries.

I think you're misunderstanding unhealthy weight loss. Losing weight is fine. Losing weight rapidly because every time you try to eat it makes you sick is, in fact, bad for you.

I think I'll trust my doctors who were concerned about me and my knowledge of my own life over what some stranger has to say over the internet, especially on a post where WE'RE TRYING TO HELP SOMEONE WITH BURGEONING ANOREXIA.

You have been brainwashed by the media. Losing that weight will not actually improve your appearance to anyone but you.
The problem is with your head not your body.

Anorexics tend to develop problems with their teeth and bones.
