Is it normal that i love apathetic angry dark music

and I don't think I'm emo. Mainly grunge bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and other bands like Black Sabbath, Metallica,Pink Floyd and other stuff in the rock genre. I listen to happy songs once in a while but sometimes like Boston or The Beatles but I don't know why I like depressing songs so much. I also have this obsession with subjects of songs dealing with suicde, loneliness, drug addiction, and depression. I just thought it was normal til my dad just yelled at me one day and was like Are you emo? Why do like depressing music? What do you have to be depressed about? He's usually not that judgemental. I'm not depressed (I have been in the past) but I just wonder why I like this. Is it healthy or normal?

Wtf your dad yelled at you? He should chill out.
It's very normal by the way. That's just your taste in music.

Sure. Most good music is intended to make you feel something. Don't write off the Beatles as happy music, though. I can't think of a band that was more poetically mournful at times. For instance, "And in her eyes, you see nothing - no sign of love behind the tears, cried for no-one; a love that should have lasted years".

What are you talking about?? Grunge is not emo, nirvana is awesome! *high five* grunge songs are generally not depressing with the exception of a few. If you listen to the in utero album, it is a little depressing cause Kurt was addicted to heroin at that time

Good music my friend. All those artists put their heart and soul into the music. Not emo. Just passion in music.

I doubt if your dad knows what 'emo' is. I don't even think I do anymore. It's just your music taste, don't let other people ruin it with their dumb labels.

It's normal. You don't have to have emotional problems in order to listen to what people would call, "emo" music.

I listen to whatever I feel in the moment. Sometimes that can mean listening to something like the sick puppies, or it could mean listening to something like, Bryan Adams. Whatever mood I'm in. But I would seriously listen to almost any type of music.

I don't think apathetic is the word you are looking for.
