Is it normal that i live off a diet, primarily of quiche?

I am a student, at university, and the Tesco I shop at is a brisk 10 minute cycle form my house. I bring a massive hiking bag to put all my food and drink in, and every shop I buy roughly 10 quiches, 8 litres of lemonade, some apples, and possibly some sensations. (A particularly delicious brand of crisps) People tend to stare inquisitively at my trolley as I pass, but safe in the knowledge that the delectable 99p, 400g, effortless to cook meal, nestled efficiently into that convenient to pack, square cardboard package, is the most economically efficient way to maintain my presence on this green earth, I maintain this routine, and I thusly swat the checkout woman's cheery "Oooh! Having a party are we?" aside, and go on my merry way.

Why don't most people do this? Is this particularly harmful to my body? They are 1020 Kcal each, so easily enough to live off twice a day plus breakfast and snacks. Plus you can forget about them in the oven for ages and they remain perfectly edible. Why do fellow shoppers find this so absurd?

Basing a meal on calories is a stupid thing to do. Let's take the quiche lorraine for example, you have cheese, egg and bacon which all contain complete proteins so in one respect that is quite good. The pastry probably contains complex carbs but it will be lacking in fibre, although apples are a good source, a medium size apple can contain up to 8g of fibre. The quiche is lacking in the essential fat omega 3 and none of the other food you eat contains it. The lemonade is just a big dose of sugar and is lacking any essential vitamins or minerals. The crisps and the quiche pastry are probably high in trans fats as well, not to mention saturated fats and salt. The overall lack of variety as well means that you will not be consuming all of the vitamins and minerals your body needs. As I was saying about fibre before as well you are only really getting soluble fibre and not insoluble fibre.

It is however a significant step up fibre wise, to last year during which I lived entirely off pizzas from the SPAR across the road, which were of admittedly terrible quality. I could feel the lack of fibre that year.
And see it in the toilet too as it happens.

  • You must do some "interesting" poops.

I'd say it's normal. Students live on all kinds of wacky diets, I lived on plain rice for six months. Just try to eat something alternative every now and then.

You have set an achievable goal.

I don't go quite this far, but I do base my diet mostly on economic feasibility rather than anything else. If it provides the essentials, it's good enough for me.

I hate quiche... Is it 1,000 calories for one slice or for the whole quiche? 1,000 calories is too much for one meal. Adults are supposed to consume around 2,000 calories a day based around three meals. You need to eat more nutritiously.

That is per quiche. 1000 a slice would be a pretty intense meal...and it's 2,600 for a male, and breakfast is the third meal.

A person should consume around 8 meals per day.

That dish is eggs and veggies right? So that mean you are getting protein and veggies. That sounds very healthy.

i lived off strictly Totino's pizza rolls one year at university, and i lost 15 pounds. i should probably rethink my diet next year after reading these comments.

Have some blood work done to see what your diets is really doing for/to you.

My diet consists primarily of beans. That's why I'm so gassy.

And if I suffer serious malnutrition problems within the year, you will be the first to be warned!

    No because eggs are gross.

You can't just eat eggs and pie crust every day that's likely going to lead to some serious health problems down the road. I know Quiches are downright delicious, but you should do some research about how bad that could be after a while.

      Go heavy on the bacon!
It's the bacon that really makes it.
