Is it normal that i like old things and im 18

I go to college in LA. Every person here wears jeans. Tight jeans. Even the boys. Now see, I have absolutely no problem with this. I don't wear jeans, I wear dresses and stockings. Ever goddamn day I hear people say things like, "Are you going to the ball?" or "Why are you dressed like that every day?'
I like old things. People tell me things like, "Oh you don't like rock music? That's GAY." I don't.
Gay? I didn't know music could be homosexual. I can't stand the modern. is it normal for me to like these kinds of things, even for this age? Apparently not with grown up teenyboppers.

I think it's totally normal! I'm the same way- I listen to 40's music constantly, wear dresses every chance I get and LOVE antiques!
It is perfectly fine to be different and like vintage and retro.

I guess it's normal. We all have different tastes. I like old things, like music (baroque, classical and jazz mostly) but I like new music too. I don't exactly follow current trends, but I dress in a way I can express myself. Which sounds like you're doing too. So don't worry about it, as long as you feel comfortable with yourself.

I feel the same way. I despise rap music, and I'd rather listen to classics. I still listen to music from Disney movies, and people laugh, but I could care less, because it's worth it to be able to listen to the kind of music I want to listen to.

there is nothing wrong with that. Every day when I go to school, i wear jeans and a t shirt (longsleeve in winter). This shirts have one solid color with no writting or pictures. Keep your clothing plain and simple. People should not judge you based on what you wear.

    Hiya,

I luv older music, or new music with an older sound. T-shirts & tracksuit bottoms are more comfortable/practical so that's what I wear. Unless you say you don't like modern stuff in a nasty way you should be fine.

OMG... I am gay, and I am obsessed with the 20's. The clothes, the music, the slang...

You're one of the few who don't follow trends. That's absolutely good.

Don't forget Timon's quote: When the world turns its back on you, you turn your back on the world.

I think it's great that you're not like today's "normal" society. Do your thing, even if it's different. That makes you an awesome person :)

It's quite normal and certainly original. I think far too many people just dress/act/listen to etc what is popular and 'normal' in order to find a certain belonging in society, even if this is strange and crude ( or at least thats how I percieve a lot of 'modern' fashions, culture and the like).

Its good that you can be yourself and indulge in something a bit more refined. Although it is not always easy to do this and break under the massive pressure to conform.

  • Its great to be your own person and embrace your own tastes. But if in the course of doing so you are seen to be rejecting "the modern" you may be patronizing & offending people.

Its one thing to say "this is who I am and what I like" and another to say, even indirectly "I don't like who you are & what you like."

I think you can keep the reasons for your preferences to yourself and show the respect for others that you are at least entitled to yourself.

    You sound very interesting, BTW

I've never said I don't like you or what you do to anybody, actually, it's the other way around.

But I'll always be the weird quiet girl.
