Is it normal that i like being sad and looking dramatic?

I want something to happen that would make me sad, so I could be sad, act dramatic and listen to depressing music. I guess I watch too many dramas. I like how actors look sad and dramatic in dramas and I think it makes them look attractive.

I hate it when people do that. Don't be so dramatic.

I know a person like that. She's annoying as all hell always complaining about trivial bullshit and wanting pity parties. I hate her.

being sad can be beautiful at times. Sometimes when I'm sad I think deeply and become more creative. There is a beauty to sadness, though I don't think I'd like being sad all the time. Like sadness much better than I like depression anyway (and yes there's a difference)

    • Yeah, I know. I painted one beautiful painting when I was depressed. Now, even if I tried to, I wouldn't be able to paint anything similar to that.

Totally! I felt this way a lot before going on anti depressants. Being sad feels like an emotional support for some people. A lot of people are commenting and mentioning attention but I don't read this from your question. I know exactly where you're coming from. Maybe it's an artist thing ;)

I would be very careful with that notion if I were you.

I have a cousin who acts like that... at first it started out as your typical childhood behavior and as he got older, he realized that he could get and manipulate people's attention by acting like that.

Now, he's 15 and he still acts like that. Honestly, we're all tired of him. He depresses us and we've all learned that we have to treat him like everything we say or do with provoke a dramatic reaction out of him. Obviously he's noticed that we treat him like a small child when he wants to be treated like a teen boy but this sad, dramatic garbage has imprinted on his personality to a degree that I'm sure sometimes he can't even tell when he is doing it.

If the people around you aren't giving you proper attention, find new people. Acting like this will get you attention, but after a while, people will stop taking you seriously, if they ever did to begin with. Not all people are the same, so don't use that "people are idiots" crap as an excuse. I've known many people and not everyone is an idiot and good people aren't that hard to find. Just find new people or revel in sadness. The choice is yours.

That's really common for someone who wants to get noticed. Maybe that's what's happening? (Not hating or anyhting like that)

    • Nah. I really don't think that someone with social phobia would want to get noticed.

Well, I have some kind of social phobia, and still I love being noticed. But, noticed for good things, not judgements and people talking behind your back. If you find beauty and likes the Sad and Dramatic feelings, maybe you want people to notice you as someone with that "Style". I can't describe if very well, but if you can understand me..

I think you just want attention and are kind of vain. You aren't actually very sad when you feel this way either, you want attention because you don't actually have much to feel bad about either. Yes, you may be kind of bummed out but maybe you do this to feel like you are capable of empathizing with people around you? Most of my friends have terrible lives I am friends with them because I am positive and like helping them. I was like you and wanted to be that way, sort of because I felt like I had to for them to trust me. Then I went thru a spout of real depression a few years later though and trust me once you have felt a real sadness that you cannot cheer yourself up from even tho you want to and no matter how hard you try you will not like feeling like that. Also, it DOES NOT make you more attractive, you are attracted to bad boys, people you feel bad for, this isn't good either those type of people want that and they are manipulative to only get what they want then dump you.

    • I do sometimes want attention, but people around me either don't give a fuck or are too stupid to notice. They wouldn't give me a useful advice and I wouldn't want to discuss my problems with them anyway. Now I don't get why I seek attention. Maybe I don't? Maybe you just confused me and made feel like I do. And I definitely don't empathize with the people around me as they live lives full of joy.
