Is it normal that i like a guy that has a girlfriend

Well i dated this guy about a year ago but i never really stopped liking him.
He was emailing me the same thing about a month ago but i didn't want anyone to know so i told him i liked somebody else.
Now he has a girlfriend and i was dying i had to tell somebody i liked him.
So i told him, saying sorry if it made things awkward he said it wouldn't but he has to like me as a friend because he has a girlfriend and he is lucky to have her.
He said if they weren't together next year maybe we could go out.
Is this normal?

    Wait, he only wants to go out with you if his girlfriend dumps him? I'm sorry, but I think he likes his girlfriend more and only likes you as a last resort. You should find someone who respects you more.

    It seems like he likes his girlfriend more than you, otherwise he would have left her and went for you. But that doesn't mean he doesn't find you interesting. I think you should give him some space to figure out what he wants. Also, do you really want to be second best right now? If he's really worth it to you, you'll wait the year and leave him alone.
