Is it normal that i haven't had my period in 6 months?

My boyfriend and I have been together for 6 and a half years. We stopped using protection a while back (Yes, i know - i know) anyways, the last time i had my period was in February 2012. it is now August 2012. I've taken quite a few pregnancy tests and they were all negative. i don't have any pregnancy symptoms at all. recently i have been stressing a lot ta work to the point where i quit in June. that might be it? you may be asking why i haven't gone to the doctors? well truth be told, i am scared and have no money for that. i just want to know if anyone else has gone through the same thing.

Try going to a free clinic. You can get false negatives from tests! I know it's scary but it's better to know then just to wonder about it.

I once didn't have my period for four months because I was stressed out so bad. You still might want to go to a free clinic to make sure though.

Well I had that same problem, but I have a disorder where the lining doesn't shed each month, blah blah, so when I was pregnant I had no idea because I wasn't having a period, I would go to your gyno just to make sure your not pregnant and see what's going on.

Probably not pregnant, most likely you have a hormonal issue. It causes irregular periods. I only get mine 2 or 3 times a year.
Monthly periods are not normal as well, contrary to the popular belief. In tribal communities that eat proper diets which include meat, nuts, veggies and fruits, women only get their period 3,4 times annually.

Monthly periods are normal in societies in which the people are overfed and maintain poor diets.

My life recently has been a fucking ditch full of stress. Everytime I get close to when my period should be, I stress more cause of the harmones or something, and I skip my period. At first I panicked like a mother fucker, but it came twice as bad next month. This has only happened to me twice this year and at seperate times. 6 months in a row is dangerous. I think is called dysmenorrhea?? medical jargon is eluding me right now.. but stress can definately be a contributing factor. However missing your period once or twice is normal. More than that is not. It could be a harmone imbalance, or something to do with your thyroid gland. I say google it. If you can't see a doctor, here's my suggestion. You have a bf right? This might sound like a lame suggestion, but try doing it doggy style, it can knock your period loose. ALSO! Try to relax. Sit in a hottub or something. That's all I've got though.. Sorry, you don't know how much you appreciate your period until you don't have it, right? :P

If you try a pregnancy test again make sure you use it when you have your first pee in the morning, right after you wake up. The pee is stronger and has a higher concentration of hormones in it.

      Good luck. ^_^

Home pregnancy tests can have false negative results, especially if you have less hormones in your pee than most women do. It seems like you would have other symptoms, but you definitely should see a doctor.

    Have you been eating?

Hm, that doesn't sound right. Even if you were pregnant, you'd miss one month of your period not six. Do you have health insurence or anything because I don't think an online community can help you with this one. Sorry. It sound like it could be serious, but maybe not. It's just, women are supposed to have periods, and if you have missed a whole six months then there must be something going on down there. I did hear that stress can alter you period, but I still don't think that is enough for you to miss six months. Yeah, definatly try to get that checked out. Ask your parents, friends, someone for money or whatever because I'm thinking you really need to see a doctor.

I don´t know if this can be your case as you provided no information about your body weight. If a woman loses weight quite dramatically and is very thin, this is what usually happens. The absence of period may last quite long - even several years. Certain amount of fat is needed for the hormones to function properly so that period could occur.
