Is it normal that i have uncontrollable emotions?

Well, I'm a teenager, so I understand that this is partly why, but I'm always angry, angsty, and sad. Its horrible. Sometimes its for no reason, which I cant understand. Any advice?

I think it's normal to a certain degree; you are a teenager, and your emotions are quite naturally all over the place. But if your moods are so extreme, I think that's something to be worried about. I don't know if you have anything going on in your life that might need to be changed, but you definitely need to be doing things to lift your mood (getting out of the house, getting some sun, hanging out with friends, etc.)

I don't think this is normal, regardless of age. Do you not have hobbies or people or something which makes you happy? If not, try to find some.

    • Oh, well I am sorry to hear this, but I'm pretty sure, having read previous comments, that I'm not bipolar, surely I am normal?

Being extra moody is normal for a teenager. However, if your emotions are so uncontrollable it's making it hard to function, that is when it becomes abnormal. Is it affecting you socially or academically (or your job if you have one)?

Maybe try to identify when you feel bad and why. If you're female, see if it could possibly related to your menstrual cycle. I know I'm always more emotional a few days before and during my period.
Journaling can be really good for this, and overall helps you sort out your thoughts/emotions.

Like others suggested, make sure you're doing things that make you feel good! What makes you happy, excited, comforted, relaxed, etc? Try and incorporate those things more into your life.

  • One of my nicknames is Hershey's bar breaker. Once I got mad about something and I took the closest thing I could find, a giant Hershey's chocolate bar, and crushed it.

      • I would try to give you advice, but seeing that I'm 21 and currently still have the same problem as you do (Since I was 16) I doubt I could. I will, however, second tsukuyomi's suggestion on journaling. I just downloaded a mood journal app a few days ago to track my moods so I'll see if that helps me. Eating healthier help me too. Whenever I eat greasy foods or junk food it lowers my mood.

Well of course it's normal. You're not a kid, you're on that step towards adulthood. It sounds cheesey but you're discovering yourself. There is a reason even if you don't know it yet.

I don't have any advice for this since everyone goes through it. So, uhh... watch Breakfast Club, it's a good movie.

  • No. There's always a reason.

Just because you can't see a solution to an algebra problem, doesn't mean it doesn't have one.
