Is it normal that i have to push people away?

When I'm in a pretty happy and stable relationship, I find myself trying to find any reason to push my boyfriend away. It's almost a compulsive need to just make them go away. Even if I really like them, and they're perfectly sweet to me, I can't stop myself. And I know that it's going to happen, but I still want to try. Does this mean that there's something wrong with me, or is it just a normal thing that people go through?

Unless you've had or seen some kind of trauma that relates to relationship, then I don't think it's normal. You could just be a masochist and don't actually know that your trying to hurt yourself. Or vice versa, you could be a sadist and for some reason want to 'punish' those close to you. These are just far-out guesses, but they could be true, there are many reasons why you push people away when everything's stable. Maybe you just compulsively need chaos in your life.

Have you been hurt badly before, and you probably don't want it to happen again so, subconsciously you are trying to defend yourself by pushing him away?

    Just a guess.
