Is it normal that i have to crack my knees every few minutes?

I'm currently suffering from what is either something I truly can't help or a bad habit.

Basically, every few minutes, my knees start to ache and itch - it isn't very painful, it's like an annoying kind of pain.

I then get this urge to stretch my leg out, push down on my kneecaps and give them a good crack. The ache then goes instantly, and the feeling of relief is great. Then, it comes back about seven minutes later, I re-crack my knees, and so-on and so forth. It's now so much of a habit that it's automatic.

However, this can be very annoying when I have no space to stretch my knees out, such as when in the cinema with little leg room. This means I have to suffer the ache for an extended period. But the upside to this as that when I finally get the chance to crack my legs, the relief is even better.

Is it normal?

I pop/crack my knees, ankles, side of feet, and elbows all the time. Knuckles a lot, too. I'll sit at the sports bar I go to, wrap my ankles around the stool, and pop away several times in a row. Then, extend my arm and pop my elbow as hard and often as it/they can go.

My hip will pop, too, on occasion, but I need to lean over and make it go.

To be on the safe side, go see a bone specialist.

  • Not normal, see a doctor. Knee-cracking is a bad habit and is one of the early symptoms of arthritis. You might need some joint pain medicine to get out of the habit.
