Is it normal that i have semi-lucid dreams?

Lucid dreaming is best explained as a fully-dreaming state in which the sleeper knows they are dreaming, can fully control the dream, and can wake themselves from this dream...

I've only ever had "semi-lucid" dreams.
I can remember the dream(s). I can tell every detail. But even though I know I'm dreaming, I can't "control" anything in the dream, and I can't wake myself from it. What's worse, they're usually my nightmares that are this way!

It's like being forced to watch a horror movie against your will. You're sitting there going "It's only a movie. It's only a (dream)....." but you're still stuck there til it's over and you can't change the plotline...

If you are still interested, semi lucid dreams happen when your brain doesn't fully wake up inside the dream. To help wake your brain up you should look at your hands and rub them together. You could also try shouting that you want control now. But if you can't talk, try thinking it as loudly as you can.
If you can't move at all then you are in sleep paralysis. You can't get into a lucid dream from sleep paralysis as far as I know. You can just ride it out and hope you wake up soon.

  • I have that too. only when I get that I realize certain things around are not real and feel rather strange and trippy leading me to believe I have been dosed with massive amounts of drugs without my knowledge or that I have gone mad then sometimes I may slowly come to the realization that it was a dream or more often than not just wake up without having any lucid dream experience. Even while fully lucid dreaming it is difficult to fully alter your surroundings.

You can always wake up immediately by closing your eyes and then closing them more while they are still closed and then open! It's easy!

I think we have different definitions of "semi-lucid." Mine would be not really seeing everything crystal clear but still being able to control things in the dream. As for your post it's very normal lol, and if your TRYING to have a lucid dream it sounds like your very close to getting there.

    It's normal.

During my lucid dream exploration phase, I came across this very frequently.
It's much easier to control your dream if you dictate where your dream begins.

When I read 'semi-lucid' I thought you meant that you can only control some parts of your dream like me. However, I've noticed that my nightmares are usually those dreams that I can't control, which makes sense. I used to not be able to control my dreams at all, but I started working on it little by little.

It's even worse when you know the ending.

Thats reallyy scaryy, I'd see a spiritualist.
However, to dream of astral projection suggests that you are looking at things from a whole new perspective. You may be feeling liberated and free. Alternatively, it indicates that you are physically or emotionally disconnected from those around you.
