Is it normal that i have nightmares so often?

Every night before I go to sleep, I try to get a short amount of sleep because I think the chances of me having a dream are less likely to happen when I only have 5 hours of sleep or so. When I have a dream, 4 times out of 5 it will be an intense nightmare. Anything from suicide, rape, homicide, and even cannibalism. Take note that I am a VERY peaceful person and nice to all. I do have some schizophrenia like personalities, but I am very loving and try to be friendly and get along with everyone. I have been hearing that we humans need a balance of peace/happiness and some violence, so could it be I'm trying to balance my mind out? Or could it be that these things are really always going on in my mind without me thinking about it? Thanks for the help and have a nice day :)

Nightmares are normal they are there so we can survive longer, people have nightmares to help or warn them it can be a disorder but try learning to control your dreams most people can, try thing or something nice and plesent, if a nightmare comes to arise than think of it more and get more sleep maybe that will help 7 hours maybe 5 to 7 is healthy but maybe your body is in panic of something in the day try to remember what it was. Dreams help us sort our memmories remember that

Try using a dream catcher, and think about other stuff before you sleep.

By shorting yourself of the time you need to fulfill your daily requirement of REM sleep, you are making yourself more susceptible to all kinds of problems that can arise from sleep deprivation.

If you can't resolve this, you may want to see a physician, or you might want to see one anyway just to be sure there are not other alternatives.

I wouldn't fret over it too much. If you never think of doing these things while you are awake, then you're fine. I doubt they could just be there without your consent. You would know.
Dreams don't mean anything, no matter how awful they are. I've killed people in my dreams, but I would never hurt anyone.
Just be careful about telling anyone you would never dream of hurting them ;)

I'm a very calm and nice person too and whenever I dream (if I can remember it) it's a nightmare. Usually involving someone breaking in my house or walking into a murder scene
