Is it normal that i have hallucinations?

I've been having hallucinations for the last 4 years. I see mostly people that aren't really there and I occasionally hear stuff that's not real. I only see the people for a few seconds and then I realize they're not there, but it happens pretty frequently maybe once a day. The auditory hallucinations don't happen as much, maybe once a month, but they're more intense. One that I get a lot is I'll hear the sounds of a beach, waves crashing, kids yelling, that sort of stuff. After about 5 seconds I'll realize its not real and stop hearing it but then 10-15 seconds later I have the exact same hallucination. My auditory hallucinations go on in cycles like that for maybe 5 minutes or so. So my question is simply should I consult a doctor about this?

I thought I was trippin too the other night... Then I saw the cat chase one of the lights I'd been seeing... Makes me wonder if some of the shit I see is there... Just not there.

No, I don't think you need a doctor. You know what your seeing isn't real and aren't having difficulty discerning reality. I've hallucinated myself and just because somebody hallucinates doesn't mean they're suffering from a mental disturbance.

When I was younger I had hallucinations fairly often, before I took any drugs. I'd see steam coming off the walls and drips from the ceiling in my house. I've twice seen this Victorian girl behind me in my mirror (I live in an old terrace Victorian house which makes it pretty scary)

Also when I was about 13/14 when I used to walk back home through the woods, I'd see these purple bats flying around me most times I went through this clearing called the fairy circle. Some times I'd be stoned but other times I'd be sober and seeing these bats. When they stopped and I thought I'll go home, they'd start flying around me again.

I guess it would depend on how severe the hallucinations are. If it's okay I wanna ask you a few questions. Do you ever use psychedelic drugs? Do you get adequate sleep and nutrition? Sleep deprivation and not eating enough can cause hallucinations. Also do you have any regular activities that involve some kind of sensory deprivation? Do these experiences happen in the same place and time or do they just happen at random times and places? I honestly don't know where I'm going with this but maybe there's some other explanation. If you do end up seeing a Psychiatrist and needing medication hopefully they can prescribe it to you in a low dose. From your post it seems like the hallucinations aren't alarming you very much but I could be wrong. Do you ever feel paranoid or delusional or have grandiose thinking? If and when you end up seeing a shrink they'll be checking for all that stuff. Hang in there and I sincerely hope this stuff doesn't ever get any worse.
