Is it normal that i have difficulty swallowing food?

I have been having problem swallowing food for the last year almost. I don't remember how it started, and at the beginning i could fix it by taking a deep breath, drinking water and calming myself. However they began to grow in their severity and i had to live off biscuits and liquid diet for almost two months. I would chew something, try to swallow it and end up spitting the glob out. Evryone around me, needless to say, could not eat around me. i tried. really hard.didn't seem to work. and then i thought that eating in front of others was the problem, however it turned out otherwise. i couldn't swallow even if left alone. and so my mom took me to the doctor and i was [prescribed medicines whch ceased these but at times they come back, especially I have seen, when i'm too mad, or too sad, or too anxious or too much anything. a few days back i could not swallow the prescribed medicine and so had to chew it.
i have been going to psychiatrists and psychoanalysts and yet these haven't stopped fully.
I want to know does anyone out there have the same thing? I need to know why this happens and if there is any way you know how to fix it. I don't want to depend on medicines so long! and since they havent been working properly completely, the dosage got increased. Info would very much be appreciated. :)

You should see an Ear, Nose & Throat doctor. You could get food stuck in your throat and be unable to breathe. That's what happened to me and the ENT doctor told me I had Acid Reflux and consequent esophageal erosion.

Dude I had that feeling once. It's not that you don't want to, it's just that you can't. You feel like you can't or you will choke right? Well, I came to figure out that you can't think about swallowing. It's like blinking, it just happens naturally. Just try and not think about it. Totally normal.

Have you seen a speech pathologist? They assess swallowing as well as language and can recommend thickened fluids or a modified diet if that is what you need.

I'd be seeing a speechie before a psychologist! Good luck!
