Is it normal that i have a critical voice in my head?

First post, so take it easy, people. When I was young, I would do good deeds just purely for being a respectable, nice person in society. Now, whenever I would do something, I would "hear" (or think) a voice in my head that tells me the merits and risks of each action, even something as simple as picking up something someone dropped. The voice would come up and say: "Maybe someone will report your good behavior", or, "Maybe you'll get some money out of this deal." This calm, brutally efficent voice is creeping the s*** out of me. Is this normal?

You have taught yourself, through repetition of good deeds, to try to analyze if the deed was 'purely for being a respectable' or not.

From years and years of doing this, you now 'think' you are hearing your own thoughts (in your mind) as someone talking to you. Guess what? There is no voice, its just your mind playing tricks on you.

Here's a story which scared me for years.
When I finally moved out of home and lived with friends I could hear them breathing (loudly) at night. I couldn't wait to finally have one night alone, just me and no one else snoring or breathing loudly or anything.
Finally the night came when it was just me. Hooray!
BUT, I STILL heard the breathing!! (This is seriously scary shit)
I tried my best to work out who was breathing? I even held my own breadth just to make sure it wasn't me.
But, every time it was just me alone at night, yep on came that dreaded breathing.

Since I honestly thought I was going mad or possessed. I generally got girlfriends quickly and often. In my mind if someone was there, I didn't feel crazy.

Finally, after a few years it just dawned on me. (I may have spoken to a friend about it, I can't remember now, although generally I told no one)
Well, when I was a kid growing up I shared a room with my brother. And at night, guess what? He breathed loudly!

Since we shared a room for probably 15yrs, my brain had just come so use to his breathing that I heard it when he wasn't even there! Its truly amazing what our brain can do.

I think it took about another 15yrs to actually stop hearing that dreaded breathing (by the way it only seemed to happen once in a while, although especially whilst alone most irritatingly!)

Now the only problem is that damn computer fan noise Lol

    ie Normal, not supernatural.

Yep. Simply put, it's called having a thought process, or conscience.

U Are Not your thoughts!!!!! and u can control what u think.... Just stop the thought from happening. You do control every part of u don't u? If you were your thoughts it would be attached 2 your body in someway. A thought is just negative or positive energy in the form of words that u can control. So just make them good.

From an early age we've been taught to weigh the consequences and rewards of our actions, like the tolken saying "Think before you speak/act!" This voice is the same voice speaking in your mind's eye when you read a book or type a reply to my comment; it's simply you!

So if you do want it to stop debating cause and effect, practice performing an action while thinking of your favorite song, or have your inner voice recite some stream-of-consciousness poetry.

But I would say it's perfectly normal!

I wouldn't be worried unless the voice sounds like someone/thing else and tells you strange things.
    What you're 'hearing' is normal.

Sometimes I hear voices from something.
They go woof, woof, woof, meow, meow.
From what I've worked out (through intense translation techniques) is that they are saying: Feed me; Get off my property, and I want to go outside no inside no outside again!
This goes on and on all night long.

But, it is a good point. When people hear voices in their head why are they never spoken in another language fluently, or even with an accent?

Tricky minds we have, very spooky.
      WOOF. OMG! Shutup, shutup SHUTUP.

        lmfao

Crap, it would suck to have voices that spoke in another language!
But yeah, I think your cats are telling me to eat their food... I'm just gonna *grabs cat food* take some a that. *Noms*

"First post, so take it easy, people"

    NO FUCK YOU!

I'm kidding. Everybody has an inner voice, but it usually doesn't process the moral and ethical ramifications or potential profit or loss of every action :P

I'd say talk to a therapist. I'm going to be, btw. But that sounds wierd. At least it isn't telling you to do bad things.

    Schizophrenia or your conscience?

I've heard many voices in my life time but I heard really nasty ones when I was younger. I don't know what yours sounds like, but it's certainly better than having someone threaten to kill you if you don't listen to their demands! Thankfully, I haven't heard those in a long time.

Maybe, you should tell a therapist to rule out other possibilities.

    Good Luck!

It's possible that it is your own imagine as a child. By that I mean, and this is going to sound creepy, that the voice you hear has been with you since childhood. Like you said, when you were young you've done nice acts. What if that voice was telling you about the consequences even back then, it's possible that you have repressed that voice and it's just now getting out.
