Is it normal that i hate the word "get-up" for "outfit"?

I hate it when people call an outfit a "get-up". I don't really know why. It just sounds really patronizing and condescending to me. I had someone tell me "That's a nice little get-up you got on there," and I just felt like smacking them.

Yeah, that's the general vibe I get from it, too - a word you'd use to refer to some kind of costume or drag.

...But I totally misinterpreted "cowgirl costume" at first, because I'm tired, and thought you meant "a cow costume, for girls."

It reminds me of a cowgirl costume.
