Is it normal that i hate sport?

I'm a guy, and if I'm at a friends house, and he has put the soccer on, I can't stand being there to watch it. I used to like it when I was younger, but now I dread doing any physical activity e.g playing baseball.

There isn't a single "sport" that I enjoy watching - the more contact it is, the less I like it too. I like playing baseball though, but I still don't like to watch it on television. I like watching acrobats, but I don't know if that counts.

Sure they count. Some of their feats are truly amazing too.

The ONLY thing I like about sports are the mascots.

After that, they are worthless to me.
I do not watch TV anymore. One reason is the prevalence of sports and how it preempts my favorite programs. There are others. (TV has sucked for like 12 years in general anyway; but I digress.)

I have a really special HATRED for sports that interrupt Talk Radio when I listen to that. I tune in Talk Radio to hear the talk show host, not an INSIPID ball game of some sort.
The previous two sort of segue into the next one.
Pre-game and Post-game shows. To hear some worthless, vapid, brain-dead bunch of has-beens and wannabe's gassing on and on and O-o-o-o-o-on about the game is ridiculous! To quote Jack Nicholson from the movie "As Good As It Gets": "They should all shampoo my crotch!!!"

And forget going out and getting something to eat in a place with that crap on TV!
People cannot keep it down when they are on, they act completely foolish and carry on when a goal is scored. The screaming is ridiculous. It is as if a great scientist found out how to make cold fusion a reality and energy all over the world will now cost no one anymore money. And the people who do that are just so pathetic! It is as if they are pretending they are that person who made that goal and they just carry on about it. (living vicariously through someone who will never ever know them.)

I do not like the prices for tickets. I will not waste my money on it.

The athletes themselves are touted by people as role models and many of them are spoiled pathetic husks of human beings who despite having had their life handed to them on a silver platter, have a criminal record as one court after another and all those in their lives make excuses for them because they can throw a damned ball. The fact that such excuses are made for them is disgusting too; and shows there are too many sycophants in the world looking to give them a pass. A pass that would never happen to any "ordinary" person.

I would be willing to bet 1/2 of all of the NFL has at least one Felony Conviction on their records. (May I remind you that if you have that on your record, you cannot get a career path job anywhere; unless you don't mind mucking stalls on a ranch or being a Janitor. - Forget anything skilled with an education.)

Sports on Radio and TV are not worth our time and I wish the whole world would abandon it once and for all. (Or at least show some level of restraint in their praise and willingness to look the other way.)

Playing sports though is very fun.

Sports boring, you can be active and physical without participating in a sport, and just because your friend watches it doesn't make those calories drop off on the couch. :D You're normal.

Pft! Who likes soccer? It's only like 95% of the world. Let's convert them into something that is stupid and boring instead. Those communists should play our sport. Because we rock and everything we say is true, even if it isn't.

Yes, I hate sport, but the internet is probably not the best place to ask if it is normal!!

  • I fucking hate sports and I hate the national obsession with them which is basically just a way for people to distract themselves from all the shit stuff going on. Imagine if we put a fraction of the energy and money we put in to sport into other things like helping the needy and poor. We could end poverty in a week.

Wait so you believe sitting on a couch watching sports is the same as playing it? Buddy you need a serious reality check. Watching sports on the telly does not give you the skill to play it in real life. You are giving yourself way too much credit.

I'm from Belgium. Soccer is really big here. I never liked it. It's fun to play for about 15 minutes, and watching it is as much fun as eating raw liver. I think that's why our beer is so damn good. It's impossible to watch soccer when you're sober. I was going to say it's the reason Belgians drink so much, but then I would be a hypocrite, because I too drink like all Belgians do. But I don't go nuts as soon as I see a white speck move on a green, boring field.
I do like to watch naked wrestling. That's pretty awesome.

At my school, they took out the drama and creative writing classes to put more money toward sports. So I'm pretty resentful to that. Creative writing was all I was good at.

And I always thought most sports were kinda dumb. But at least the people playing them get exercise.

Also, since VikingWolf mentioned education, I thought I'd bring this up. Colleges shouldn't give out scholorships because someone is a "skilled athlete". It basically says to the rest of us "You're smart, but he's really good at chasing a tiny ball around a field like a dog. So he deserves the same education your getting."

This is why I hate sports. Not to mention the fact that sitting and watching is incredibly boring, as many of you have mentioned.

      TOO True!
This goes back to my original post above where I said "<i>They</i> [this of course, meaning athletes in general] <i>skate through life and every time they get into trouble, someone is willing to make excuses for them or give them a pass.</i>

If I didn't say that exact line, then it was a thought I wished to convey.

Pooling money to the football team instead of the drama department, the automotive department or the other clubs is ridiculous. Many of the jocks in my highschool certainly seemed to be the stereotypical dumb jock type. "D'uhhh Football!"

I don't know for sure though.

This is what Noam Chomsky says about sport: “Sports plays a societal role in engendering jingoist and chauvinist attitudes. They're designed to organize a community to be committed to their gladiators.”~
and: "...And I suppose that's also one of the basic functions it serves society in general: it occupies the populations, and it keeps them from trying to get involved with things that really matter. In fact, I presume that's part of the reason why spectator sports are supported to the degree they are by the dominant institutions"
