Is it normal that i hate social media?

Is it normal that I find it so lame when people use social media to show off their children, bodies, tattoos. And share photos of food they've cooked or eaten at restaurants...

I realise that people use social media to stay connected, but for a lot of people, especially on Instagram, they do it to show off to people they have never even met.

Why do some people feel the need to share details of their lives to the world? Obviously they are proud, but why isn't it enough for them to enjoy those things for themselves?

I hate social media too and don't use it even though I have accounts.

My take on social media is slightly different. I think people mainly post for themselves and use it like an online scrapbook of sorts. It's like what blogs used to be 10 years ago. The difference between then and now is that everyone "has to read your blog" because they're your social media contacts; while back then only the people who really wanted to know how you were, what you were up to and what you thought about life and the world would bother to drop by.

    I miss that freedom.

  • I like facebook because it is a convenient way to interact with people I know. I do agree it is bad that it replaces peoples real lives too much and people give out too much personal information, which is especially a problem when that information involves other people, but I use it to know what's going on with my friends and find stuff to do. I go to way more events since face book than I ever did before because I am updated on what is going on and where the parties are at.

Someone I know who is very self-absorbed and loves to share food pictures and other unimportant details on social media in reality was quite lonely on Christmas and New Year's. Says it all really.

I hate vine lol. It's so fucking annoying when someone else is watching it. And... I'm not racist or anything, but has anyone else noticed how it's like 80% young black people who use vine?

can't tell if your last two questions are rhetoric because there are just so many reasons: because it is human nature to seek approval, the pictures posted are supposed to create and reinforce a persona others want you to see, those things make people happy and it's understandable to want to share
