Is it normal that i hate people who self harm?

Well, if i see any posts regarding self harm, then I just hate it. I feel horrible about this by the way. But I just don't see ANY reason to cut yourself, It doesn't make sense to me, and if I found out a friend self harmed, I wouldn't really want to be their friend, unless they were a REALLY good friend, I'd do my best to talk to them about it, but if they didn't stop then I probably would stop talking to them.

I just don't get it, someone explain please,

Thanks.

  • As a cutter, I think it's sad how ignorant you are on the subject.

People cut for numerous reasons, so much so that even as a cutter myself, I do not understand all of the reasons.

Sometimes people feel out of control, as if there's too much noise that you can't escape from, complete silence can sometimes make it ten times worse, and they cut to regain control and power over themselves to make everything calm.

I myself cut because despite the noise I use to try drown it out, everything is just always silent, but a sharp silence, and I have a facination with blood (Not in a vampire-wanna be way, I like the deep red colour), it stops that sharp silence for a while.

I remember seeing a video from someone I watch on Youtube saying his reason on why he cut, and his reason was that someone had hurt him, or numerous people did (can't recall it perfectly), and when he cut, it was to show that nobody could hurt him as much as he could hurt himself. He done it to control his feelings and to not feel vulnerable.

The reasons for cutting are different from one another, so much so that you shouldn't treat it lightly. I remember thinking in a similar way to you about it, but having experienced it and the need to, I facepalm at my past ignorance.

You don't have to like it, don't get me wrong, but don't be so cruel as to think they are less people because of it.

I completely agree that you shouldn't think so shallowly about cutters, but it comes across that you're glamourising cutting. I think it's important to say that if people have a desire to cut there are better ways to make that desire go away other than by cutting.

It is a way of dealing with your pain. Personally, I find that physical pain is a great distraction from emotional pain. When I just can't take it anymore, I like to inflict pain on myself and sometimes end up cutting. It's as if I'm punishing myself for being so weak and giving myself what I deserve. Pain is my medicine.
I don't see any reason to suddenly dislike or ditch someone who cuts. Just disregard it if you don't like it.

I self harm because I'm punishing myself because I hate myself but before I did I couldn't really understand why people did either because I thought making yourself bleed doesn't change the situation your in but weather you understand it or not all you can do is try to be accepting.

  • I don't understand it either but I try not to be judgemental of what I don't understand. That can be hard to do sometimes. I think for people who self harm it gives them an addreline rush similar to drugs, sex, gambling, etc. I know a stereotype is that they do it for attention and while some do, it is more common that that is not why. The most common answer seems to be addreline rush.

there's no reason to hate on them. I started cutting because I couldn't deal with all if the problems I was facing. it doesn't make me any less of a person than you.

Most people who cut arent proud of it or encouragr it. It is an addiction. It actually releases chemicals that calm the brain. Some people even have tendencies to self harm since childhood. Its often connected to depressio, anxiety, or other mental illness. Its not somethng you should judge but try to help the person. I used to cut and i did so for several reasons. It helped calm anxiety attakcs, gave me feeling during the numbness of depression. I also had strict parents and cutting wad a way of "punishing" myself for not living up to their standards. All that beng said, it wad not the right wy to deal with my issues and i also tell people to never start cutting! But it was the only way i knew how to cope because i had been taught to not show my emotins and that i had to be happy and perfext. This was a way to let out those emotions. Since then, ive seen counselors and have stopped cuttng and handle my emotions better now. And i am damn proud of myself for it! I dont judge padt me and i dont judge anyne who cuts bow. Because i understanf the intense pain they are probably going through. Its how they deal with it. No one is perfect and just because someone copes with life differently than you is no reason t judge or hate them! Maybetalk to them and try to understand what they are going through instead of hating them!

Personally, I don't think cutting should be seen in a positive way, or encouraged, and I hate people who try to encourage cutting.

However, I don't hate people who cut, but I do try to avoid them.

I hate them too, for a different reason. It really shakes me up to see someone doing that to themselves. There was a girl I saw with literally hundreds of cuts on her arms and legs, and I wanted to cry. I wanted to say something to her but I barely knew her and didn't know what. I've never cut myself but I've gotten close and I don't know why. I think it was to make myself... feel something.

Me and my friends cut ourselves to share each others blood and be bonded for life.
