Is it normal that i hate my job as a musician?

Ever since I was 16 I've been in a band with my two female best friends, now two years later and doing a few tours around the UK I've started to hate singing and jumping around on stage. I get paid a nice amount and I love both my friends but I just don't see a point in jumping and singing to the same punky music, is it normal to want to give up my dream for an office job?

It's not normal since it's usaully the opposite of the norm, most people want to give up their office job and start a band!

Maybe if you're sick of the "same old punky music" then you should try and broaden your horizons? Try make more experimental or original music. If you're still not happy, quit it. There's no sense in doing something you don't enjoy unless you get paid a ridiculous amount.

completely normal, not everyone enjoys performing their own music over and over, if you really want to pursue an office job then do it

People's taste in music changes throughout their lives. When I was a kid I loved country, then R&B, then rap, etc. Now I listen to nothing but heavy metal. As our lives, attitudes, and values change, so does our favorite bands. Your probably just tired of playing the same old genre. Change it up and play some new stuff: reggae, jazz, heavy metal, etc.

That seems like a lot of fun. I would love to do that. But to each his own.

  • I can see where you're coming from. I've been on and off working as a musician since I was 15. I love it, don't get me wrong, it's what I wanted to do more than anything....but lately, with the people I'd be playing with I'm kind of disgusted. bunch of dumbass stoners who don't take it at the least kind of seriously....or they take it too seriously but suck at it. you should honestly try to do session work....it will give you a broader span of music, and if you're good you will make decent cash *while* working your way up.

I wonder if I've seen you. Up until this year, I'd always seen quite a lot of live music. Including a few people who went on to be famous (but weren't at the time).
