Is it normal that i hate my brother for real?

My brother is 5 years older than me.... We are supposed to go on vacation and I REALLY don't want him to go... It hurts my parents but I can't stand him. I hate going to dinner with him or going anywhere with him really. Everyonce in a while, we have a fun moment, but more than anything, he bothers me and I think it's more than a brother sister hate thing. I like having family discussions but when he's there, I hate them. Is it normal that I feel that way? And also, I was really happy when he went away to college and flunked every class.... Normal or not?

Seems like you harbor too much anger towards somebody that really doesn't deserve it. He might annoy you, but annoy and hate are two vastly different things!

    • No Captain, he 100% deserves it. He ruined my family with drug use and had my parents waste nearly 50,000 on school. Plus! He is addicted to the Internet and does nothing with his life

Then why do your parents baby him so much?

Sounds like you have an unnatural attraction to him. I think you need profession help before you do something really bizarre that would change the lives of your family forever.

Absolutely normal! Compared to my hatred for my brother, yours sounds totally sane. And it's not even like he's more successful or treated better than me by my parents...

Because people always understand what they feel and why they feel it.

I think it's normal. But maybe it's wrong to use the word hate. I resent my younger brother because he is a much more extroverted and popular person than myself. It absolutely kills me when I go home and my father is always going on about how successful my brother is at work.

So yeah, I think I can understand where you are coming from.

i agree hate is a very strong word. if ur bro he hasn't done smthin very serious to u I dont think u shud think of him like that. I have a bro 4 year older I generally dislike him as well cuz well too many reasons I just dislike him. but at the end of the day he's family and I'd easily trust him over most of my friends in serious situations. cuz I mean we grew up together. I dislike him but hate is not the right word.

I have older siblings that I dislike intently (hate is too strong a word). One of them doesn't know the meaning of personal hygiene and is a devout conspiracy theorist. If you try to logically argue with his crackpot theories that he starts going on about randomly, he just claims that 'you've been brainwashed by the government'.

What are your reasons for not liking your brother?

    • He's annoying, gets whatever he wants, favorited...., people look at him like he's an angel

Well, my brother is the same way and I don't hate him. Hate is a very strong word.
