I'm Scottish and from the west near Glasgow, so my accent to other people is really strong and pronounced but personally I never notice it. And when I see Glaswegians on television I just think " wow. Is that what I sound like?" but hey, don't be embarrassed about your accent, it makes you, you. And when you say British you probably mean English right?

Yeh, be proud of ur accent cos it represents where u come from. But you're pronounciation will get better as time goes on anyway so don't be worried about that.

There was a girl at my camp when i was younger and she hated her british accent and people teased her and asked her to say stuff like harry potter.

I love hearing an accent, no matter where it's from. I know many people do, so don't be afraid of it. :D

I don't get it, your pronunciation sounds british. But you say people can tell you're not from the UK.

Well if you sound British, people shouldn't tell you are from the Nigeria.

Unless: if you pronounce words like "The", they say "da" in Africa. British people will say "t-h-e".
If you try pronouncing "Thief", Africans will say "Tiff", while British will say "Th-eif".
    So how do you pronounce?

And if we are talking about Accent. You have to stick with it because it can't be helped, saying words goes in high to low pitch toning.

I don't like my accent too, because people make fun of it sometimes. In fact when I try to imagine myself speak, I'm not sure if how I imagine it is how I said it or I sound different. Though one thing I hate is when speaking over the phone, I sound too different O_O

Well, if people ask, just tell them.
There's no reason that you should be antisocial just because of the way you talk, or where you're from.
You could also practice a more authentic-sounding american accent.
