I live in Louisiana (I previously lived in Georgia) and I hate living here in the South. It's too hot, bug-infested, full of rednecks, and full of bible-thumpers. It's miserable here. I hope that one day I'll be able to move to a colder state (I was thinking Wyoming or Montana).
I have met redneck type folk before. I generally really enjoy these people. They love their country, they generally seem more accepting, They love family and do not generally act like the rich spoiled snobs from the rich cities. I hate rich snobs and I meet those a lot. I hate when people who think they are rich and big putting it in your face saying how much more they have. So while some of them have odd customs I very much enjoy rednecks. I do not meet these people often but the few times I did it was not that bad.
I would hate it to if I lived there. Actually, I do hate it and I have even developed a phobia of southern related things. I have so many bad memories of being forced to go visit relatives in Virginia and violently becoming sick in the car.
Besides the accent there were many other things that bothered me: The extreme Christians, the intolerance, the homophobia, and the fucked up lifestyle and there was that smell in the air... The south has got to be one of the worst places a non-religious or non-Christian or gay person could live. I don't blame you for wanting to move. I think Colorado would be nice place to move. So, would NYC or Canada.

The food is pretty good down there, but deathly to your health... So yeah; its best you leave.
I live in Las Vegas and there are more douchebags here than in the Summer's Eve factory! Fake tans, fake noses, fake boobs, and so much botox that their faces look like creepy masks; they're as superficial as the day is long. Now down South in Louisiana give me some real beer and crawfish!
There will always be better and also worse places to live! The best advice I can give you is to learn to make the best of where you are, because it has much to offer and you will be much happier
You want to move to a colder place? Try Leningrad. Temperatures drop to -40°C. You could buy the house for sale next to me and we could be neighbours and throw Molotov cocktails together.
Never been there but it sounds horrible. I live in the UK, which is supposed to be more like the north of the US than the south.
