Is it normal that i hate live recorded music?

There is something about recorded live music that I find really distracting and annoying. Even if it is my favorite song I don't appreciate the cheering or singing along of the crowed. Is it normal to dislike it this much? Lots of people must like live music as I can never avoid hearing it.

Completely normal. A lot of the time, there's no reason to listen to live music- it's just poorer quality versions of the songs. Not many bands actually switch it up for live performances.

it all depends on the bands and the way they record. some of the artists i record sound so much better live and are absolutely amazing, but some are basically shit.

    Hiya,

There's not much that beats seeing your favourite band/singer live. I can give you an answer from both perspectives.

Both gigs were full of old rockers (more chance of pulling!) but people seem to be politer to you at folk/jazz gigs than heavy metal ones and you can hear the music better.
I found I was enjoying the folky stuff more so I stopped bothering with seeing the heavier stuff. I'm glad I saw it, but I don't miss seeing it live, although I still listen.

  • I don't like when you can hear the crowd, like I prefer those live from "the Basement" When a band is good live, I like the live recording more than the studio version.

Im exactly the same. i only like live music if im actually there.

Otherwise its like half the song is missing and filled back in with noise

The clapping can be a little distracting, I vote normal.

I prefer live music, but I have a different definition for it. Live to me is any songs that are played and recorded all at once, without any mastering done. I think it sounds a little more genuine; I like the little 'mistakes' here and there. It is better without the loud audience though.

Thank you! I'm glad somebody finally said this. It's very rare I find a live version of something that I enjoy. Live music is great if you are there and there's an energy between the band and the crowd but to hear a recording of it? Nope. There's a disconnect that just isn't enjoyable.

Same with comedy, by the way. No matter how good a recording of someone's performance is, being part of the audience and feeling the way a good comedian is playing up to you is just something else.

It depends on the group though - and the target audience.

I took my boyfriend to a Yes / Styx concert last year. Between the two shows there was a SERIOUS difference in the crowd.

When Yes was playing, most of the crowd seemed to be old hippies. There was some noise and sections where the band wanted the audience to participate but... they also were quiet when they really wanted to hear the music.

On the flip-side, when Styx was up, the crowd got louder, and a little bit ruder.

So I guess the answer is... listen to old Progressive Rock for live concerts. cos old hippies aren't so noisy. =)

      Because they're high.
It's hard to be noisy and exciteable while high.
      Wish I was there :(

Honestly I'm not sure if they were or weren't. Not all yes fans are stoners. I am quite content just listening to the music without other substances getting in the way.

Although I was disappointed that Jon wasn't part of the tour. They hired a tribute-band singer Benoît David to fill in for Jon for an album and some tours. He's good, sounds a lot like Jon, but ... not the same.

(besides I was looking forward to Jon's flaky stories! =) )

  • Some people are good at singing live, but not as good as the studio versions. I never understood why people go to music concerts, what's so good about listening to music that isn't as good as the versions you can listen to at home, the better version?

Some live versions are better than the studio versions, though. It doesn't happen often (I don't think so, anyway) but it does happen.

You might not like this song, but here is an example of a live version being better than the original. I hate the official version of this, but I love the live version:

I am the OP. I think I don't enjoy sharing my music experience with a crowd of people that isn't even real.

  • I think they are great. What about the live performances on YouTube? Do you not like them?

I download a lot of free music and when I download a discography and it has live music from the band, it annoys the hell outta me!! I am with ya!! I love concerts in person and don't mind seeing a video, but an audio of the live performance is super annoying with the audience noise and the talk. I just wanna rock out with the music~ ;) Your not alone!

I used to hate hearing tracks that were recorded live.

..And then I found The Who.

..And then I heard 'Live at Leeds'

    ..And then I developed a massive hard-on.

    Jk.

Anyways, I find that a lot of bands just play the songs as they were played in the studio. I figure that those tracks are only best heard at the concert. But there are plenty of bands out there who have crafted an awesome stage act, such as The Who.

It depends on who you listen to. It all depends on the artist, for me anyways.
