Is it normal that i hate it when movies make kids look tough?

I fucking hate it when movies or TV shows (mostly since around 2000) try to be "cutting edge" by getting child actors to curse at, beat up, outsmart, humiliate, or generally act in a more responsible or mature way than adults. I wish I could have grown up in the 60s or 70s and lived in a society where kids genuinely respected adults from time to time and didn't act like little shits. I'm so tired of seeing audiences lolling over unrealistically mature or tough kids dominating stupid or weak adults. Kids are little bastards. BTW, I'm 17 and know that most of my friends (including me) are insecure fucks who were little fiesty bitches when we were like 8-12. There's a reason why adults rule the world and not little snot-nosed kids. I don't care if it's meant for comic relief or some bullshit like that, it's not funny in the slightest and it's just plain aggravating.

I see your point, here (uk) we had an irritating advert on tv about some kid in school eating cheese strings, and the teacher asked him what was he eating, as it didn't look like cheese, the kid was like "er, it's cheese" in the most aggravating up his Arse rude tone, and I swear if he was my kid I'd have slapped him! Only a tv commercial I know, but no wonder why some kids are coming over as having the upper hand on adults.

I'm glad it wasn't just me that detested the smug little brat. On the other hand, you know that rice krispies girl who says, "No mummy, that one's pop" - I find her quite sweet.

I saw a little boy the other day in a video game shop telling his mum and gran "just shut up you don't know what you're talking about". I didn't see any anger from the parents. I felt the need to stab him to death.

I hate movies like that too. One thing (among many) I love about the Willy Wonka movies is that the bratty children get their comeuppances in the end.

  • Man, I HATE movies like that. Those situations just make me think the kids have wimpy-ass parents who don't know how to bring out the backhand when their children start getting belligerent.

There's a simple solution to this - stop watching shows & movies like that.

Ha! I agree. There's a commercial in the US for an SUV called a highlander, and the kid is in the backseat shaking his head at another kid whose parents are in a minivan He says "he needs a highlander. Equipped with rear headphones and speakers....blah blah blah"
I always say out loud, "you're a kid. You'll shut the hell up and ride in whatever car your parents are lucky enough to own"
I thought i was the only one who did this.

    • Oh, dude, I know what commercial you're talking about! I hate that kid! He's such a stuck-up, precocious little cocksucker.

@ country roads! haha, I seen that commercial and thought the same thing. I got my little 8 year old cousin a brand new iPod nano touch, and she was complaining it was an I touch, bn only 23 myself, it was an awakening to see just how different kids can be 15 years later.
ps (I want to beat up the whole cobra kai dojo, and the karate kid lol)

What? What shows/movies? Can you give an example, because I haven't noticed this trend.

The Vietnamese kid leader from "Tropic Thunder" is the first one that comes to mind. Also Ricky Bobby's kids from "Talladega Nights". Both of these films, coincidentally, are exemplary of the post-2000 trend which, IMO, is ruining the film industry with tasteless comedy which appeals to a general audience which Hollywood apparently considers to have a preteen mentality. I really want to see movies which take themselves and their audiences seriously, have solid acting, an actual plot, meaningful characterization, and the like. They are getting rarer and rarer as time goes on. I mean honestly, how can anybody compare something like "Slumdog Millionaire" to "The Godfather"?!?!? Facepalm.

Well, have you seen Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind? Or Shutter Island? They're both excellent, and from the last 10 years. Not all 70s movies were like The Godfather or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. There have ALWAYS been shit films making millions.

Yeah, I know they're both very good films, but you have to admit that the general trend nowadays is for CGI, animated films, teen sex "comedies", and mentally vacant action flicks. Movies like Inglorious Basterds or, like you said, Shutter Island, are few and far between.
