Is it normal that i hate dog owners that assume everyone likes dogs?

I hate dog owners that assume you like dogs and so don't properly contain them away from your space, expect you to want to pet them, comment on how cute they are, ect. Is it normal to harbor so much angst over this?

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I like to go for long walks out on the local hiking trails, and I hate being accosted by other peoples off leash dogs. If I had a dollar for every time the owners said "Don't worry, their friendly" as their dogs were approaching me, or jumping on me, sniffing my legs, etc, I'd be rich. I'm always tempted to get mad and respond with "I don't care if your dogs are friendly, get them the fuck away from me". But I try not to be too rude about it.

I struggle with this all the time. Dog owners assume that you feel the same way about their dogs that they do, and they fail to establish boundaries with dogs because they attribute human characteristics to their dogs--Anthropomorphism. Dog are animals-point blank. If we keep distance between ourselves and animals in zoos and in the forrests/jungles, then why do not expect the same when dog owners breed wild animals and hold them captive in their houses for their enjoyment. When you express your boundary of not wanting a dog all over you, you are seen as abnormal. Yes, when you go visit a dog owner you respect he/she has a dog, but dog owners also need to respect their guests and now allow their dogs to jump, sneeze on, slober on, piss/shit/shed on their guests. Its called boundaries, dog-owners.

I am very much a dog person but have always tried to be sensitive to other people's dog-tolerance. If someone comes around and they don't like dogs, then the dog will be locked in another room. I can't understand why anyone would dislike any animal but I understand that some people do, and I can usually tell by the look on someone's face. I wouldn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable and I'd hope other pet owners would feel the same.

well if you are visiting someone at their home and they have an inside dog then you need to respect that. i love dogs but i dont push them onto people, if you dont like them then you dont like them. but i dont like people who dont like dogs or any animal for that matter. but that is just my opinion.

I don't honestly understand people who seriously don't like dogs and I don't want to and don't care about them in general but when I had a dog I rarely had her off lead because I loved and cherished her. What I have a problem with is people who don't make any effort to train their dogs. Those people always seem to accidentally drop the leash. Once I took my obedience trained Shetland Sheepdog out to go potty and out of nowhere comes this intact male Chocolate Lab and he is really trying to mount her. She's snarling and growling so I pick her up and he's jumping on me. I don't normally advocate hitting animals but I was protecting my dog so I hit him a bunch of times and he would run away then come right back and start again. The whole time he's got a huge shit eating grin going and is happy as hell! Finally a young redneck in a big red pickup truck shows up of course. I was annoyed and a little angry but really happy to see him. Thank God it was Mississippi(big surprise) because he was polite and apologetic cause I was afraid he might be upset that I hit his dog. This might be anthropomorphic for some but it was the canine equivalent of a drunk frat boy. If he were just jumping up on me and not trying to bang my girl I never would have hit him. I wouldn't hit a dog otherwise unless he was in attack mode. I'll never understand people who straight up don't like dogs but I can definitely understand not enjoying a strange dog up in my face in the wrong way.

One last thing about the Chocolate Lab is he did listen to his owner and I'm sure he was a great bird dog but I hate to see an intact male running around on a humpfest mission. I know he probably can't help it but I hate it!
