Is it normal that i hate celebrating my birthday?

Every single year I try to convince my family and friends not to celebrate my birthday... yet, they always end up making a celebration full of disappointment.

It is not that I hate my birthday because it is not good enough... I hate it because I don't like being the center of attention, and celebrating a day devoted just to myself just seems extremely egotistical to me. Personally, it just seem like a waste of time and money to me...

So... is this normal?

You'll get there eventually. I don't celebrate Christmas or my birthday any more. This year, I didn't even remember it was my birthday. It's hard to avoid Christmas, though, so sometimes I just have an anti-Christmas and do non-Christmassy things like have Indian food for Christmas dinner and then deliberately stay sober.

The Indian food sounds like an awesome plan! Forget the deliberately sober thing though!

Indian food on Christmas Day is just wonderful. As for the sober thing, come midnight it was an entirely different day and all bets were off. ;)

I haven't celebrated my birthday or any holidays since I was 10. Mainly because everyone gets together and acts like they care about each other and say their sorry they've lost touch and just haven't had time to call or text because of work or school. When it's not the truth, they just don't wanna call.

I don't like celebrating my birthday because to me...it's just a family get-together where everyone celebrates me getting older.

I don't give a shit about any birthdays or holidays anymore. Too many were ruined :( plus I'm over 30 and I don't want to think about it or I'll puke

Normal. Birthday, graduation, anything where its supposed to be "my day" makes me uncomfortable. I find this strange because at parties, work, and social functions I usually end up being the center of attention due to my "entertaining" personality anyways.

Normal. I don't ever celebrate my birthday either. And not celebrating it, doesn't phase me in the least. I'm fine with just going out to dinner, or even just staying home and watching a movie. I don't think its any problem whether you want to celebrate it or not. But I think it makes more sense to me when people who are really starting to get up there in age to celebrate, as they are counting their blessings, thankful that they even made it as far as they did.

Must be a Taurus thing. I know other Taureans who do it too, as well as me, obviously.

Hmm... I never thought of that before, but it is a good point. Good observation dappled! :)

You've only aged one day since the day before and people make as if you're suddenly a year older.
It's like an annual celebration of the slow and steady deterioration of your body.
