Is it normal that i hate art but moderately good at it?

I really dislike art class with a passion, but for some strange reason I was given the talent to do art. I'm not just talking traditional paper and pencil here I can make anything look good, it's just a matter of time; what I don't understand though is why I find art so dreadful.
Is this normal?

Art is pretty broad, it's natural not to like all areas of it, especially when some of it is so obscure no one can understand it. You may be more interested in commercial art or design, product design, architecture or fashion, it's still "art" but just not the pencil and paper kind.

It could also be you have a bad teacher or your teacher has a bad curriculum.

Not only is this normal, it means you are a true artist. Art class has nothing to do with what art is, and you have realized that. Go your own way, it's what you're supposed to do in that field.

I am a pretty decent artist but I hate taking art classes because they tend to force me into some sort of "box" where I have to draw a specific something in a specific way and it feels like a prison for my creative side. I want to be free to create what I want and when I want to create it. I also feel as if the art classes I have taken part in have somehow distorted my own artistic vision.

It is not normal to HATE art itself. Art is beautiful, emotional and cultural. How could you hate all of those things?

I'm very jealous of you. I have always had a passion for art, but I never feel like I'm "good enough" at it. My family members all think I'm way too hard on myself and that I could turn pro if I wanted to, but there are so many other people in the world who are way more talented than I'll ever be. My art is kindergarten scribbles compared to theirs, and I feel like I'll never catch up.

Art takes time it's kind of like a sport with the same two teams the paper vs. your imagination. It just depends how far you take it, can you push yourself overtime or will you just give up in a matter of minutes. I recommend some "blind contour line drawings" just to get yourself started in an artistic career.

Geez, I'm agreeing with zchristian again!

If by chance you don't draw/paint that 6yo 'modern' artwork, and you're actually good; then it may be that you have turned your hobby into work and it now feels like something you must do, instead of just wanting to do.
