Is it normal that i happen to retain consciousness in dreams?

Does not happen throughout my entire sleep but usually when I am taking naps. Just for a few moments I can distinguish between dreams & reality but unable to move my body! Feels quite helpless and weird!

I have this sometimes. I've done some research and it's because while you are sleeping a hormone (if I remember correctly) is released to keep you still while you sleep. If you haven't entered REM sleep, you can "dream" while "awake" if you get my meaning. So you cannot move your body, but you can see things.

I've had this as well, but I normally have feelings of paranoia with it, which I think is not normal. But what you are describing does sound normal and can happen.

Feel free to message me if you need anything!

Yup, it sucks, doesn't it? I sometimes start not being able to breathe during sleep and then it becomes part of my dream, or I'll try to see stuff but my eyes are closed and I'll think that I'm blind. One time I woke up with that whole sleep paralysis thing and I thought that I somehow broke my back while sleeping and now was unable to move my body below my neck.

    Sounds similar to lucid dreaming.
