Is it normal that i get sooooo upset with her?

Alright, me and my best friend have been friends for more then five years now. I love her to death and would do anything for her . . . but she is seriously pissing me off.

She has a habit of being what she calls "Blunt" and I don't have a problem with that. It's just the tone she uses that makes me so upset. She thinks she is just "telling it how it is" but I think there is a different between being truthful and just down right out rude and hurtful. She doesn't have any level of sensitivity sometimes.

Also, when certain situations happen where I think she was in the wrong, if I approach her about it, she tries to justify everything she does and makes you feel stupid for even approaching her in the first place. I don't know, is it normal to feel so upset with her?

"telling it like it is".... is USUALLY what people say when they want to justify saying things that are hurtful and cruel... or when they want to justify their own misconceptions.

I had a guy use that line on me once. He said he was "telling it like it is" when he accused me of being a slut and of cheating on my boyfriend.

Why? Because he saw me out at the base bar, looking nice, talking and dancing with other men. It didn't matter that I wasn't kissing anyone. It didn't matter that I wasn't doing anything more intimate than a two-step... he decided I was a cheating whore, and took it upon himself to "out" me to my boyfriend.... hell even my boyfriend agreed with ME and felt I wasn't cheating either.* but according to that one guy... He was "telling it like it is" therefore the truth was only what he wanted it to be.

So when others say "i'm telling it like it is"... that's what I think of.
Someone who has decided their own personal perception is reality and they're attempting to justify treating others badly over it.

    * side note. he didn't like country music and i did, which was why i went out without him when i wanted to listen to country

Well, what kind of things has she said? Honesty is a good thing but being mean is totally different. You should talk to her about it; simply tell her she's hurting your feelings. Hopefully she'll understand and be a bit nicer. If not, don't deal with her. It would be hard to end a friendship with someone you've gotten close with, but if she doesn't care about you it's for the best. Find some friends who do care. Good luck.

Pull her up immediately on her tone before she goes too far. Just say, there's no need to come across so rudely. I'm sure she'll apologise and alter her tone if she thinks it's offending you.

Thanks, I do have a habit of keeping quiet and not addressing it right then and there, so I'll try this. Thank you so much for your time.

I've met some like that before. Totally normal, sometimes a fact of life when dealing with people. It's really nice of you to still be her friend, a lot of people wouldn't speak with a person like that.

Is she one of those types that think they're right even if proven wrong?

Well that's the thing, it soooo hard to prove her wrong because she "justifies" everything that she does.
