Is it normal that i get mad when people talk about god?

I dont believe in god. People keep telling me about all the good things god has done for us and how hes our saviour. If hes so good then why are people starving and dying of diseases? Lots of horrible things are happening in the world and he doesnt do anything about it. People say he can do anything but he doesnt do anything.

God sounds like that bad manager who says, "do as I say, not as I do" to me.

He says to be good even to bad people and yet he wants to send all bad people to hell. Turn the other cheek or I'll hit you with my double edged sword.

Either a bad manager or a bully with a sense of humor.

I like to think of an all good God, but I do agree with what the OP has said. There are all these horrible things happening around the world and he does nothing. And as for that free will bullshit, what about the kid who his getting raped 12 times a day in one of those fucked up whorehouses; do you really think he/she had free will?

It should be okay to openly talk about your beliefs, but some people are very pushy about what they believe in and it can be very nerve wrecking. but also we must understand that no matter what we say, some people will not understand what we believe or why we believe certain things, because they cannot read our minds and emotions.

I'm an atheist and I really try not to persuade anyone that God doesn't exist, yet I happily tolerate people trying to persuade me that He does. You could say that makes me a good person, or you could say that it's unfair I can't put my point but have to listen to others.

The truth is neither. The truth makes me feel like a very bad person indeed because it's the same reason I pretend to believe in Father Christmas in front of my nieces. I genuinely don't believe there's a man at the top of the world who makes all the presents and delivers them all by a miracle in one night. The cold, hard truth is that I think our parents buy the presents and sneak them into our room late at night.

You can understand why this is demeaning to people who believe. I absolutely know it is, but I refuse to lie about it. More often than not, I refuse to even talk about it because it's embarrassing to treat intelligent adults like children. I don't want to think this way, but I can't help it. God is just Father Christmas for adults. If we are knowingly lied to as children, is it really so impossible that we are lied to as an adult?

Normal. I'm an atheist too. I hate it when people shove religion down my throat.

People came up with God when they couldn't explain things. To this day the #1 religious argument is "Well how do you explain that?" Just because you can't explain something doesn't mean that god did it or that there is one. Once upon a time people though rain was god's tears because they couldn't explain it. Now we know better.

Unfortunately all you can do is bite your tongue and deal with these nuts.

^^ wonderfully said. I'm atheist, but that was a very unimposing statement; thank you.
tori's comment made no sense to me. We any depend on ourselves for anything: do you have a mortgage? Student loan? Bank loan?
People are too busy nothing about their lives to help others: a privilege of being Western, ignorance.

Bad things happen because not everything in this world has the same reaction to these "good" things. Killing off humans is very good to some forms of life. The disease wants to live too, the mountains want to explode, the fleas want to chew on your pets, and the humans have forgotten that we share this little rock with all of "gods" creations. We are not special. Yes, we have a unique brain that enables us to think about the orgin of it all, but it doesn't give us more right to thrive. The world is out of balance and everything, not just humans, are trying to find an equalibrium. Adaptation. So don't believe in god, you don't have to. But believe that you are a part of something much bigger.

I know with all the negative things in the world it may be difficult to have a strong faith in religion, but for me, that is all the more reason to have a relationship with God. I know you do not like for people to try to shove it down your throat, an they should respect your wishes. Many just find it encouraging to speak to you about their beliefs in hopes to give you insight on things.

When you stand back and look at the unfathomable complexities and interdependencies of this world, its creatures, life, its pleasures and pains...it is unimaginable to think it just "happened." It's just NOT reasonable. There is too much structural integrity in this world to imagine it as chance.

"I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." (Albert Einstein, 1954)

Be assured, you ARE part of something bigger.

Yes there are horrible things happening. But, if you are one to believe in God, then God gave us free will. It's up to us to help ourselves. And the human race is loosing the race.
